February 25, 1932 - December 6, 1996

The Sheriff, as he was often called, began his career with Webb Pierce on the Louisiana Hayride in 1951. Pierce, a regular on the Hayride, took Faron on as a featured vocalist. Faron also went on the road with Webb for several year. In 1951, Faron signed a contract with Capitol Records and scored his first chart hit two years later. By the mid-50s, he had established himself as a dominat figure in country music. In 1996, Faron shot himself after battling an illness for a couple of year. His tragedy shocked and saddened the country music world and he is dearly missed. However, Faron left an indelible mark on country music that will not be forgotten.

Faron had so many great hits that selecting a single CD would be difficult. Bear Family released a 5-CD box set spanning his complete Capitol recordings. Mercury Nashville released a single CD containing thirteen of Faron's chart hits associated with that label. I recommend two single CD units. The above pictured CD, released by the Country Music Foundation. It covers the decade he spent with Capitol from 1952 - 1962. In addition, his CD from Mercury entitled Faron Young - Golden Hits is a must.
