_____CHRISTINE No. 2

In 1989, between Christmas and New Year, I went to New York to celebrate New Year's Eve in a Jazz Club in Manhattan. And as David Sanborn didn't coome to Europe that year, I hoped that he would perform somewhere in the Big Apple at that time. Unfortunately he did not and I was a little disappointed. But nevertheless I enjoyed my stay in that fascinating city. We were a group of 12 people. On December 29, we went out for dinner and when I got out of the taxi-cab, I saw three brand new one cent pieces lying on the street. I joked: "Oh, these are lucky pennies, now I'll meet David Sanborn" and the other girls in the taxi laughed at me. After dinner, six of us went to the Jazz Club Carlos I. By chance we got an excellent table near the stage. The club had two floors and I was seated in front of the stairs. At once, I noticed that someone was coming down the stairs. I looked up, but this 'someone' had already passed and I just saw his back. But I recognized instantly that this was David Sanborn. He has such an unmistakable way of walking. It was really him and he had his seat not far from my place. It was really unbelievable. Accidentally he was just with friends at the same time in the same Jazz Club as we were. Of course, my travel companions didn't believe, that this was David Sanborn. They were teasing and asked me if I had drunk too much wine at dinner and if they should bring me to the hotel and so on. You could imagine, that I was totally confused and I didn't know if I could to disturb his privacy to ask him if I might take a picture of him. But in the break between the two sets, I took heart and went to David Sanborn and asked him if I could to take a picture of him. He was very kind and accepted instantly. But I was so excited that at the end, this picture was totally overexposed. But I was so happy to have met him in by chance, that I didn't care. Of course, my travelling companions realized finally, that it was really David Sanborn and our tour operator insisted on taking a picture of David together with me and so I have a great remembrance from my first trip to New York. But the most astonishing thing happened one and a half year later. In summer 91 I met David Sanborn at the Montreux Jazz Festival. As I had taken this picture with me, I asked him, if he would be so kind to sign it. He did and he remembered even the name of the band who played on that 29th of December 1989 at Carlos I in New York.
