_____LAUREN
I've been listening to David Sanborn for about four-five years now. Heh,
no comparison to those that have been listening to him for 30 years, but,
hey, I'm only 16. It's not like anyone introduced me to his music either. I
was just flipping through the radio stations one day, and when I came to the
WJJZ 106.1, the Philadelphia smooth jazz station, I was hooked. I literally
ran out and starting buying smooth jazz CDs, including something by David.
After that first CD I bought of his, I just kept buying them until I
collected all of them. I was hooked for life. From the time I started listening to his music, I was so psyched just thinking about the first time I'd be able to attend one of his concerts. I attended about three at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA. I never got the chance to sit up too close to the stage which made me want something more...I wanted to meet him! Around June 13th, 1999, my wish came true. I found out that David Sanborn was playing at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in Wilmington, Delaware. I figured, hey, a festival, much more informal than a theatre. I bet he'll sign some autographs. The wait for him to come on stage took what seemed like an eternity. But as soon as they announced his name, my heart dropped right to my stomach. I was finally really close to the stage, our blanket we were laying on was about 3 feet from the stage. My dad had made sure of that. After the concert was over and I was already in tears, I ran with three other women to the other backside of the stage where David was walking down a pathway signing autographs. I was the *only* teenager in a crowd of 40 year old broads. First David approached my father who had a slip of paper in his hand that he found on the ground. He told Mr. Sanborn to sign it to his daughter, Lauren. He did so, and as soon as he was finished, I literally pulled him over to me. I then asked.. "Is it OK if I give you a hug? To which he replied with a slight nod, and so I held him as close as possible. I remember the rest of the monologue. "Oh my god, I've wanted to meet you for so long...*sniffle*...you've inspired me..." ..all of this said while I was grabbing on to his hand. I swear I scared him half to death, because he didn't say ANYTHING during this whole time. I will never forget this moment for the rest of my life. I've still got his autograph pinned up on my wall with a bunch of his pictures. Ahh..I just hope I'll get to meet him again, and have a dialogue with him. =) |
