_____SEAN

My name is Sean. I've been a Sanborn fan since picking up my horn as a kid. I have seen him many times as a sideman, but only twice as leader. It was that first time as leader I met him.

My best friend and I drove 90 miles to see him. We arrived at the arena early in an attempt to get passes to meet Mr. Sanborn. I spoke with a DJ from Charlotte, NC in order to get 2 passes. He was a TOTAL JERK!! I explained how I had studied music and knew a lot about David Sanborn. I offered to answer David Sanborn trivia questions to earn them. He still refused. A couple we met was given tickets and backstage passes as an aniversary gift. After talking to the couple, they wanted to know more about David Sanborn and his music. I jokingly asked them to talk to the DJ. They came back saying he could tell them nothing. I gave them EVERYTHING I knew. Making the DJ look like a total idiot. They were impressed and asked if I wanted my CD's autographed. I asked them to get "Heart to Heart" and "As We Speak" signed. They replied "No Problem!".

Following the concert my friend and I went to the door to wait for our CD's. An irate guy grew impatient and yelled, "Who wants this pass!" I reached up and got it and went to meet my SAX GOD. As I progressed thru the line I caught up with the couple who had my discs. We all met David at the same time. They told him what I went thru with the DJ and the knowledge I had. Mr. Sanborn was impressed and his eyes grew big when he saw "Heart to Heart". He joked, "How about that shirt and hair!" We spoke for a bit and he said, "You worked like this just to meet me? You are a Fan!" I said, "Thank You. This is an honor!" I smiled and left.
I just hope everyone who visits this page gets to meet this musical giant. Hopefully without the stress and struggle.

Follow Up: The Sanborn Experience occurred on June 18, 1997 in Myrtle Beach, SC. I have since seen him again in October 1999 at the Maritime Center in Charleston, SC. This venue was outside and to see and hear songs like "Benny" and "The Dream" as the sun is setting is in my opinion one of the most romantic experiences one could have. I didn't get to talk to him this time. I have a poster and some flats hopefully I can meet him to get these framed and autographed.
