_____TRIVIA
- Kirk Whalum's latest release, "Unconditional", has a song titled "Waltz For
David" which (a reviewer in JazzTimes says) #"is a nod to David Sanborn, who has made it
clear that he is a big fan of Whalum's."
- David supports the following organisations: Mr. Holland's Opus and the
Crossroads Foundation
- Here David's newest album is known as In Sides. Close, but it's not quite it.
- Lisa Traxler says "One more observation of the man sans his music: David Sanborn has
fa-a-a-abulous hair." Mhmmm...agreed ^_-
- David has a Great Dane called Ruby.
- There are three remixes of Bang Bang: the album mix, Mardi Gras edit, Mardi Gras Dance mix and the 4 X 4 mix
- Did you know that: "Two jazz albums that have been named as favourites by tap dancers -
Upfront by David Sanborn and Unforgettable by Natalie Cole. Because tap dance is closely related to
jazz rhythms and syncopations, jazz, swing and big band is the music commonly used for tap dance."
- David did not only perform at the 1st Annual Soul Train Music Awards, which took place on March 23 1987,
he also presented one of the awards.
- Tonya Harding, ice-skater, once chose a song of David's for her performance.
- Here is something you surely didn't know before: Sanborn is the 2,700th most popular last name in the United States; frequency is 0.005%; percentile is 55.735
- Candy Dulfer said in an interview that she wanted David to play on her album,
but she didn't dare to call him, so her mother did *lol*
- Mobile Beat ranks David's music "best background music" right after
Kenny G, Harry Connick, Jr., Frank Sinatra -- but they also put Macarena at number six of their Top 400...
- From a review "Palermo's first album, Ed Palermo, featured Randy
Brecker, Dave Sanborn--"This is when Sanborn was still affordable" said
Palermo--and Edgar Winter."
- Nathan Brown once remarked that, if he had to choose between the sax of Kenny G and David Sanborn,
he'd take Gary Riley.
- All in all, David has won 6 Grammy Awards in three different categories:
1. The first one for All I Need Is You as Best R&B Instrumental Performance in 1981.
2. In 1985, he was given the Grmmy for Best Jazz Fusion Performance, Vocal Or Instrumental for
Straight To The Heart.

- From the Who's Who of Canadian agents operating in the US:
"Sanborn, David: Expert at using a reed instrument to pass on top-secret
information. Regularly uses, under the auspices of the Eastern Seaboard
Coordinator (q.v. Agent Shaffer), a late-night television show to give coded
messages to the Canadian Armed Forces."
- When David performed with the Paul Butterfield Band in Woodstock, they played Everything's Gonna Be Alright,
Driftin', Born Under A Bad Sign, All My Love Comin' Through To You and Love March.
- Well, what an honour for David, he's been added to the
dead pool under the category of "who we want to die".
- Brian Gorrell, a sax player, played The Dream, a song composed by David,
at his own wedding. Isn't that cute?
- I have never realized that up to now, but the
Rhythm and Blues Lyrics Archieve assures me that David is a "Male R&B/Jazz Singer"
(oh, well forget about that little sax playing he does ocasionally).
The only thing that bothers me is that most of the songs listed on that page are instrumentals. How comes..?
I love that one!!!
- Acording to Amazon.com people who brought David's CD also listen to artists like
Kirk Whalum, The Braxton Brothers, Boney James, Rippingtons, Richard Elliot, Peter White,
Dave Koz and read books like "The Street Lawyer" by John Grisham or "Bli˙d Man's Bluff : The Untold Story
of American Submarine Espionage" by Sherry Sontag.
- Here are my favorite ways of mispelling David's name: Sansbor, Sandbord, Sanbourn, Sanburn, Davis Sanborn, David Sanddorn :-)))
I actually saw the first (unbelievable but true), the last but one always happened to me, when I was
typing too fast (and of course I typed Miles David despite trying not to), the last is
the name my little sister uses when she referrs to David.
- The song Dukes & Counts is deticated to Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
- On the Candy Dulfer album "Big Girl ", on with David joined Candy for one song, the Dutch saxophonist also
used a sample of David's playing "for that I had to pay more than for that day he came to the studio".
- On the Bruce Springsteen album "Born To Run" (1975) David plays baritone sax!

- Here's what I found posted in a newsgroup by the owner of the official Sanborn site:
Re: Sax Player Anagrams
David Sanborn - Darn Avid Snob *lol*
- Michael Kamen once told this in an interview about the making of "Lethal Weapon": "And he [Stuart Baird] says, "Well I have this guy in mind," and I immediately went, "Yeah,
who?" very, very defensive. And he said, "Well, I don't know if you'd know him or not but I heard him play the other day and
he's great." And I went, "Yeah, who?" "I think he's fabulous." And I went, "Yeah, who?!" He said, "His name's David
Sanborn," and I said "You got it." So the idea of bringing David and Eric together, two of my favorite musicians, the two leading
exponents of their instruments, these two major lead instruments of rock and roll...for me to be the cement that got them
together is an honor. And Dave Sanborn is a great, great friend. "
- Here's a quote from the liner notes of the Michael Stanley Band disc "Right
Back At Ya (1971-1983)" regarding the track "Let's Get The Show On The
Road" : "... it took me ten more years to learn to sing it right, but it
only took David Sanborn two takes to nail the sax solo... actually he got
it on the first take but we just wanted to hear him play somemore... sorry
David...)
