_____TV APPEARANCES
- David has been on Politically
Correct a couple of times. Politically InCorrect is a nightly talk show where four guests discuss a topic in front of a live audience. The host Bill Maur, a former stand-up comic, plays devil's advocate. It can be very funny when people speak their opinions, and sometimes not so funny. The guests are the famous, from politicians to rock stars. David had a chance to show how intelligent he is. The one episode he was a guest, the subject was prenuptial agreements. He was against the idea. You can imagine the surprise on the other guests face when he explained he was divorced 25 years earlier. Bill Maur could not belive he was old enough to have been married that long ago!
- Did you know that David performed at Clinton's inaugural? It was called "Reunion at The Mall Concert". He played for the first family on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial along with Grover Washington, Jr., Gerald Albright, Kenny G., Curtis Stiegers, Kirk Whalum, Tom Scott, Gerry Mulligan, Dave Koz and Michael Brecker. They did a medley of songs ending with "Heartbreak Hotel".
- Also, David has hosted VH1's Top 20 Hits Countdown...
- ... and was a celebrity contestant on Wheel of Fortune
- David was in the first Saturday Night Live band, you can catch him in old reruns of the original cast shows from the 70's. He also backed up the musical guest stars on the show. I remember him with Paul Simon and Aretha Franklin.
- On Fridays in the early 80's, he played in with Paul Schafer and his
band on the David Letterman Show. David Letterman would joke saying David Sanborn was the inventor of the saxophone. David S. always seemed so shy, he was always a background musician, and it took him quite a while and a few episodes of Night Music to feel comfortable as a front man and host.
- The oldest filmed performance I've seen of David, was on an British
interview show we get here called Profiles. It was an episode on David Bowie, and they played a few moments of the video of "Young Americans".
- David is also mentioned in an old episode of The Simpsons. I don't know the title. Lisa, who plays the sax, says one day she wants to be Lisa Sanborn.
