Here, you will find lyrics of a few pop songs I have written. This is my humble contribution to the OPM (Original Pilipino Music) Movement. I have yet to record them because I have not found the rightful singers yet, (plus the fact that one whole album requires a lot of hard work and a huge amount of money involved). Except of course for Josephine Valtiendas (I Want To Learn) & Allan Valdez ('Di Na Kailangan Pa), who were both very unselfish to share their talents, time & effort with me when I needed interpreters. I hope you enjoy them and I wish to thank all those people who helped me write the songs in any way.
I Want To Learn is my first ever composition. I teamed up with my fellow choirboy Tadi Cueco and our song won the second prize in St. Joseph's Academy's songwriting competition. First prize went to Clottie Julio from the 4th year class. Jo Valtiendas and the Las Pinas Boys Choir interpreted the song for me, as the contest theme was "EDUCATION". It is a song about small children asking a much older person to teach them the right way to knowledge & success.
You, My Friends "The Freshmen Song" I originally wrote this song for my 1983 graduating class but the song "I Won't Last A Day Without You" by the Carpenters was chosen to be our graduation theme instead. After 6 years, a group of students led by Liza Jazmines & Maricel Bedana approached me and ask for a demo tape of this song, and they kinda liked it and suggested to the other candidates that it would be their theme song. After the Commencement Excercises, my former teachers scolded me for making everyone of them cry because of the touching & moving lyrics & melody of the song.
