Once again it was that time of year where mistletoe and jingle bells were commonplace. That meant it was time for the Marching Sensation form themselves into the HLB Concert Band and for the Bourgeois Choir to do their singing attire.
To kick off their concert year, the Brave Band and Choir held their annual joint Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m.
Giving the audience a sneak preview of their concert festival performance, the band played a march entitled "Hermitage". Some of the familiar Christmas tunes performed were "Sleigh Ride", "A Christmas Festival", and "Greensleeves".
Adorned in long dresses, the female Choir members were proud to show off their concert uniforms. A few songs performed by the Choir were "Carol of the Bells", "Break Forth", and "Sister Mary had but one Child".
Seniors gathered around Mr. Guy Aycock, the representative from Star Engraving, who was here at HLB Wednesday, January 10, in the morning before school and at lunch. Anxious to take that next step that brought them seemingly closer to graduation night, the senior class ordered diploma covers from Mr. Aycock at the cost of $4.00. All seniors were required to purchase a diploma cover or they would not be allowed to graduate on the stage. They also had the optional choice of buying a miniature diploma for only $2.00.
"I'd order a diploma cover even if it wasn't absolutely necessary because it will keep my diploma safe for a long time," commented Alice Levron.

Have a problem? Something new is being offered at HLB to help people (teachers and students) who are having personal or discipline problems. It's the Time Out Room, an extension of Guidance Services and part of SOAS (School Offered Alternatives to Students Suspension).
Because TOR was a success in junior high schools, Terrebonne Parish initiated the program in the three senior highs on December 11. Mrs. Mary Fillette is the Bourgeois TOR person. She was a guidance counselor for nine years before moving to Louisiana and she has been teaching English at HLB for the past three and half years.
Since the program is an alternative to suspension, one important feature is that a student may miss just the class in which he is having problems. Before if a student was suspended, all class periods were missed. Also regular class work is done in TOR and grades are recorded the same as if the person were in class.
All students in TOR are not there because they are suspend. Some are referred because of personal or attitude problems. Student may go to the room on their own before school and during the lunch hour.
An important thing to remember is that the TOR is not a Time Off Room. You will be required to make up class work missed during the time spent in the TOR. Also, you will not be allowed to do punish work in the Time Out Room.
The monthly meeting of the Spirit Club was held on Wednesday, January 10, 1979.

Then, the meeting was moved to the boys' P.E. room for a speech by Coach Folse and for the viewing of the film from the H. L. Bourgeois vs. South Terrebonne basketball game.
"He Holds The Key" With a key to my heart ....Into a world of love and care. He stayed for a while So little though it seemed. He shared loving moments and words But all were really dreams. Dreams of everlasting love and happiness All a world of fantasy ....It was only a dream , never meant to be. He closed the door And locked it with the key. He left me behind to face reality. He went along his way And with him the key went. Will he ever come back to unlock the door ....To what we had before? . |
