Let's Talk About Addiction....

When I was a baby and just learning to walk, I went with my parents to visit my grandmother Kay.  She gave me a super-sized Coke from 7-11 and a giant KitKat bar.  Kitkats disgust me now but ever since that day I haven't been able to get enough Coke.

I start drinking Coke about 5 minutes after I wake up.  I'm not bad enough yet where my eyes feel dry without my coke or my body aches.  The body aches start about three hours after I wake up if I haven't had my coke.  I go out to the kitchen and get a glass of it, and sit sipping at it as my shower warms up.  Then I pour myself another glass for me to drink while I get dressed.  This one always gets finished quickly because I'm in such a hurry.  Then I bring a can with me in the car to work, but if we are out of cans I'll have to sit in the break room and drink one from the machine (60 cents... cheap!!) as soon as I arrive at the Library.  By this time I'm just about wide awake.

On my real break which I usually take about 2 hours later, I drink another Coke.  I would drink two if I had enough time but.... what do you expect when you only work part time?  As soon as I get home from work I have to have another Coke or three.  I usually finish my first 2 liter bottle by around 8 pm. I'll go through another one if I'm in a bad mood.  I realize that I am essentially rotting out my insides.  They use Coke and Pepsi (which I refuse to drink) to clean the gasoline and oil stains from garage floors so imagine what it's doing to my stomach!  But I don't care.  It brings on tooth decay and such, so I get flouride treatments every trip to the dentist.  The caffiene stops affecting me after 10 pm and I have no trouble sleeping.  I fall asleep about a half hour after I get in bed and I sleep the whole way through the night, and I can hold it in until morning~!!!!  Luckily I have never been anywhere that Coke has been made completely unavailable to me for long periods of time.  Finding a bathroom can be problematic, so I try to steer clear of long car trips with my father who refuses to stop anytime at all during 5 hour car trips.

One time I decided to quit Coke and go cold turkey.  It lasted about 7 days (no Coke or soda whatsoever) and I didn't get any chills or aches, but I was taking 3 aspirin every three hours.  I don't think I really need to quit, per se.  Not yet at least.  My dentist is amazed that I haven't had any cavities since I was 7 and my mom is amazed that I can.... sustain basically.  People tell me to switch to Diet and I refuse.  I don't like Coke just because it keeps me sane, I actually do enjoy the taste.  At a party I once drank 6 liters (three bottles) in four hours.  Even if it stopped having caffiene I would still drink it just for the taste.  This diet and caffiene-free shit is ridiculous.  I'll leave that for my mommy.  It tastes like shit and it probably has worse chemicals than regular Coke Classic.  I read an article about some woman in Cosmo or Mademoiselle about her "addiction to Diet Coke".  Sorry sweetie but if you need to get addicted to something, Diet Coke is just pathetic.

Some might say I am a sick person but we all have our vices and Coke is mine.  It's a pathetic existence, but I like it.  :)
