- Zappa graduates
from high school, and begins to play with various bands gigging around
the bar circuit. 1961
- Frank began
work on the score for a B movie called The World's Greatest Sinner,
written, directed and produced by Tim Carey. The theme from the movie
appeared first as the B side of a Baby Ray and The Ferns single in 1963
and later as "Holiday in Berlin" on the 1970 Burnt Weenie
Sandwich album. [24/25]
1966 - The Mothers played at Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco.
The opening audition was Lenny Bruce. 1968 - LP Lumpy Gravy,
the first release under Zappa's own name rather than The Mothers of
Invention, peaks at US #159. 1969 - Double LP Uncle Meat
reaches US #43. [27] 1969 - The band plays
the Denver Pop Festival at Mile High Stadium, with Jimi Hendrix, Creedence
Clearwater Revival and more, to 50,000 people. [6] 1971 - John Lennon and
Yoko Ono jam on stage with Zappa at The Fillmore East in New York. The
show is recorded for Lennon LP Some Time in New York City. 1979 - LP Orchestral Favourites
reaches US #169. 1982 - LP Ship Arriving
Too Late to Save a Drowing Witch reaches US #23 and UK #61. 1987 - Zappa is relieved of
his role as guest host on US TV's "The Late Show" after a
disagreement with the producers over he choice of guests.
