----------------------------------------------------------------------------
THANKS TO C2YA FOR INFORMING US ALL!
He sat in the front row in between Axl and Buckethead.
They didn't even check people so the show is probably bootleged!
Same setlist from Rio but they didn't play Nightrain
At the beginning of the show....
They showed a video clip of new GN'R logo (orange/blue with the US flag
in
the background), then they show the space shuttle and satellite from
space
camera zooms in through to Earth and gets to land then they show a
movie - a
soldier is running through weeds and s.hit during this, kick ass music
clips
from what is most likely a new GN'R song is played (pounding drums,
awesome
evil guitar from hell). They they who tanks and all hell breaks loose.
It
could something from a new movie (from what he noticed, he's not sure)
and
then they went on to another video with a narrator that sounded like
George
C. Scott and he said "The Arabs have taken our money - it's time to
put the
money back" and it talked about the economy and it starts talking about
who's the real evil in the world (money and weird s.hit) then they
show a
cartoon of chinese soldiers then it ends.
Stage Setup
Brain, Dizzy, and Chris's equipment was 5' high (kind like the UYI
tour
setup) Axl's piano came out from under the kit
There was a catwalk; Axl ran back and forth a lot
Brain had a red drumset
Members
Axl was thinner. Looked the same, was wearing a white Oakland Raiders
Rich
Gannon #12 jersey and had black leather pants and Lugz boots that were
brown
with black bottoms. Nike watch on right hand, Bracelet on left. 2nd
half of
the show he wore dark-purplish Prince Valiant coat over his jersey.
Voice
was great...screams were f.ucking on-spot.
Robin wore an all black jumpsuit
Buckethead had a yellow jacket. He wore a green backpack halfway through
the
show. His KFC bucket had blood stains on it.
Dizzy looked like Dizzy
90% of the show Chris wore pantyhose over his head - he was crazy as
hell...hewas headbanging and s.hit...he played acoustic during Patience.
Paul had a beard
Tommy wore black pants and a black t-shirt that said "bomb"
The sound was screwed up early in the show and during Oh My God Axl's
mic
went out and he got really really pissed. He threw the microphone and
walked
to the side of the stage and stared in the sound technician's face...looked
evil as hell;more evil than what he looked like at Rio. So Tommy sang
almost
the rest. During the end of the song, Robin got pissed and threw his
guitar
at the speaker and it broke and then threw the mic stand across the
stage.
Axl said "this is the first show in 10 years that he wanted to do" and
goes
on to talk about how Alan Niven forced them to tour in 91 and he fired
him
for it. And then he talks about the European tour. He had no idea there
was
a European tour. He said, "One day I was sitting at home on the internet
and
I found out that the GN'R tour was cancelled and I had no idea that
I had a
tour." He said don't blame him for the cancellation. He also said has
to
deal with the "Internet Whores." He also said "We're in the studio
doing
this album and I can promise you that we're gonna deliver and it's
gonna be
out of the ballpark"
And "we've been working on this album and I can tell you we're doing
our
best and that's all I can promise." He said someone in the elevator
thanked
him for doing a show and he was really moved. Later on he repeated
again
about this was the first time he wanted to do a show and it was all
f.ucking
up, but he smiled about it.
Buckethead did three solos. The first solo was after the 4th or 5th
song and
it consisted of Pirates of the Caribbean/Big Sur Moon/Star Wars The
2nd solo
was acoustic and it went slow to fast. The 3rd was electric.
Someone threw a KFC bucket at Axl and he wore it.
Someone threw a black cowboy hot at Axl and he wore it - Tommy wore
it at
end.
Axl started doing the "two-step" while having a huge smile on his face
during Paradise City.
Rick Rubin, Pauly Shore, and Owen Wilson were at the show
Robin Finck's guitar tech said 68 songs done - working on 14 more.

Subject: [GNR] 12/29 gig
Just back from the show. Band played 2 hours, no encores, and
did not do
Night Train, which was on the set list for the night. They also
didn't do
Buckethead's numchucks thing.
It wasn't without its difficulties. Right before Oh My God (4th
song?), Axl
walked off stage pissed about sound stuff. Came back on, didn't
want to be
there. After Oh My God, I thought the show was over. Axl
walked off again
because of mic problems. Robin threw his guitar, threw Axl's
mic stand,
and I thought the place would erupt.
But, Axl came back and finished the night. He never once talked
to the
crowd, saying hello or anything like that. He did bitch to the
sound guy,
suggesting that as long as Axl stayed in one spot, there wouldn't be
any
feedback (and for an in-ear monitor system, I'm sure it was a bitch).
He
also had one tirade, see below.
Rumors are that Slash was in the house to watch the show. Some
rumors say
that he was denied entrance into The Joint. Linda, can you check
this out?
He went on a tirade before November Rain about why the album wasn't
done,
about how/why the Europe tours didn't happen, etc. He said tonight's
show
was the first show he ASKED to do, versus being asked to do last NYE
and
RIR. Apparently, he found out from the internet about the June
shows in
Europe and subsequently in December. I guess that explains Doug's
fax
about the cancellation of the tour. He said Buckethead and Robin
had never
met before rehearsals for the HOB gig last year. He said that
things were
better as a band now this year. He said he was out with the old
last year
and in with the new this year, and made references to Duff and Slash
and
other former GNR members using the band's celebrity status for themselves,
which brought a chorus of boos from the crowd.
Starting with November Rain, there were a string of several very, very
good
songs, including The Blues and Chinese Democracy. Other songs
played were
Jungle, It's So Easy, Paradise City (last song), Think About You, My
Michelle, Sweet Child O' Mine, Madagascar, Silk Worms, Live and Let
Die,
and KOHD. No Rhiad, and like I said earlier, no Nightrain.
I'm sure JohnM
will have the complete, correct setlist on his web site soon
(gnrontour.com).
Tonight, in general, I was impressed with Robin and Brain. Tommy
put in a
good show, and Dizzy was great on The Blues. I don't get Chris
Pittman; he
wore a stocking over his face for most of the show. Buckethead
had on some
yellow rain suit and wore a backpack for some indescribable reason.
Ron Jeremy, former porn star was in attendance with several porn actresses.
I apologize for not hooking up with some people after the show.
I had some
emergencies to handle. JohnM, glad everything worked out with
you. Ravi,
Mark, Holtz (hey, how YOU doin'? Nice ass ... slut!), and Jan,
it was cool
to chat with you. ??? Sebastian, it was good to meet you too.
One more emergency to handle, then I think I'm gonna try and sleep.

Oops ... forgot about Buckethead's solos. Probably forgot other
stuff too.
Band started at ~10:50, finished 2 hours later.
Buckethead did a couple of cool solos, one which included some of Star
Wars
and some Eddie Van Halen "Eruption" copy. Very cool stuff in
his own
right.
G'night :)

Review from SlamRock from the 2TI forum
Alright, it's 3am and I'm really wiped out so, here's a quick rundown:
Show was scheduled for 10pm. It actually started at 10:57pm. The stage
was
set up with tons of televisions and the show started with images of
war and
political stuff. Throughout the show the tv's switched from psychodelic
images, to the band, to war images. Bucket Head was playing guitar
and Axl
came out wearing a football jersey with black jeans. He later changed
into a
long soldier-type coat.
They played tons of material from Appetite for Destruction and I noticed
that they played all of those songs faster than how they're played
on the
album. Maybe it was to fit more songs in. They played Rocket Queen,
It's So
Easy, Mr. Brownstone, Sweet Child O' Mine, My Michelle, Think About
You...
The crowd went apeshit for You Could Be Mine, Patience, November Rain
and
Paradise City. The crowd was pretty tame, imo.
There were technical troubles, mostly I think with Axl's mics. It was
hard
to hear him at times. At one point one of the guitarists chucked his
guitar
across the stage and walked off. I could tell Axl was frustrated in
the
beginning but they all left the stage while stuff was getting worked
on and
I really think Axl handled it all very well.
The highlight was listening to Axl take a few minutes to explain what
had
been happening in the past 10 years. In a nutshell, he said that one
by one
everyone involved (managers, record company people, etc.) "dropped
the ball"
and he's spent years dealing with lawsuits. He said that this show
tonight
was the very first show he's played in 10 years that he "asked to play"
(goosebumps). He also said that he and the band are going to put out
their
very best effort possible musically and if people like it, they want
to do a
world tour and if the people don't like it, at least they know they
made
their best effort.
The rest is all my opinions:
Bucket Head is the most phenomenal guitarist. It was the first time
since I
saw Steve Vai that I'd been blown away by a guitar solo. He started
his solo
with the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean and threw the national
anthem
and VH's Eruption in with his own things. I expected some schmuck but
he was
a very talented, technical player. Props to Bucket Head-he fucken rocked!
Axl was more gorgeous than I've ever seen him! Fat Not on your life!
He's
not a string bean but he had some serious muscle tone going on. His
skin was
so perfect and he looked like he hadn't even aged. He had little braids
all
over his hair and I spotted a dread or two as well. I don't remember
his
hair being so thick. The first thing I noticed was how healthy and
fabulous
his hair looked. His voice was right on and his attitude was pretty
good.
I feel so fortunate to have been able to attend this show and I think
everyone who paid $135-$260 to see it definately got their money's
worth.
THANK YOU AXL AND GUNS N ROSES FOR AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE!

Subject: [GNR] The Show, and how lame it must've been
Well, it's great to see that, after a year of working with his new band,
Axl
has thrown together... the same fuckin' setlist he used at Rio??
W...T....F???
I hope y'all had a great time at the show, but I'm glad I didn't piss
my
$400 away on the trip. At this point I'm only anxious to see an active
band
living and writing in the present (or at least post-1987). How in the
hell
does Axl expect people to dig his new band when all they do is play
covers?
Tonight, sometime between 10pm and 2 am I'm going to throw Live Era
(you
know, the CD's that had the QA guys losing sleep over which to label
"1" and
which to label "2", skips and all) into my CD player, program it so
it only
plays songs from AFD, and pretend I just dropped $250 to sit on my
own Futon
for a GNR show.
For Axl to sit there and claim he knew nothing of the failed Euro-tour,
and
hated having to do Vegas and Rio last year (after he said he was so
"thrilled to be here" last year) just makes me look at him and go,
"Fuckhead". It's called PR, Axl. Try it sometime.
How about this: if you don't want to be a rock star, just quit. I mean
totally. Send out a press release that says "Guns n'/and Roses is no
longer
a band. I've retired and love it. Don't expect a new album ever". That
would
be enough for me. Instead, we get little comments from Dougie. Hints
of a
tour. Tickets sold (you think Axl didn't know about that? heh!). A
"single".
Reports of an album that's been "80% done" since '92. An actual tour
that
Axl "knows nothing about" and is then cancelled due to Buckethead's
illness,
which we never hear another word about. Then a surprise show in Vegas
to
hear Axl bitch about his oh so troubled life. Blah.
Anybody get the feeling we're being yanked here? Ten bucks. No album
this
year.
Have fun at the show tonight. Do you think they'll play "Paradise City"?
Gee, I hope so!!! Those 3 chords are oh so entertaining, especially
14 years
later.
I was hoping for so much more.
Yawn,
Kirk

Subject: [GNR] what happened on 12/29
So there were a pile of errors on 12/29 that Axl was able to work through
and get a good show in. I was able to find out a lot on 12/30
about what
happened.
His in-ear monitors were giving him trouble all night, and I guess there
were plenty of times when he pulled one out.
Stage volume was terrible, and no one could hear anyone.
During his little speech before November Rain, there were problems with
the
piano, so he was talking to kill time. There's more about the
"celebrity
status" comment than everyone knows, but I can't talk about it.
Buckethead's first guitar solo was also covering other technical glitches.
There were problems with the teleprompter, especially during Oh My God.
Axl was having problems with his microphones all night, too.
There's some other stuff that happened during the show last night.
But, it
all worked out. I'm sure the show tonight will be much better.
