Wigtownshire League 1923-1925

Because of the distances involved, Wigtownshire clubs were not popular additions to the league competitions. Therefore. in 1913 six of the county’s seven senior clubs decided to form their own league. Despite matches being fulfilled during the first part of the season, none were played after the New Year, and the league was eventually wound up unfinished.

This Wigtownshire League was re-formed and played during two seasons from 1923 to 1925. Because of the large number of cup competitions being played at this time, it was impossible for the members clubs to fulfill their fixtures, and the league was wound up after two unfinished seasons. Despite this, Stranraer, St Cuthbert Wanderers and Newton Stewart still managed to play some matches in the Southern Counties League that was played during 1924-25.
