North Emerson Avenue & East 21st Street

One of many Indianapolis's Federal Signal Corp. Thunderbolt 1000T's.  This particular siren is located

next to Indianapolis Public School #68.  Located on the other side of the Shell Station is North Emerson Avenue.

Here is another shot of the Thunderbolt 1000T.  You can see the old faded Thunderbolt logo on

the gear reducer box (what makes the horn spin around).  Notice the telemetry in the bottom right hand

corner of the photo.

Here's a look at what makes the Thunderbolt work.  The top box is called the ARCH Cabinet.  The ARCH

Cabinet contains a radio receiver and a timer which controls how long the siren runs for. The bottom left

hand box is the RCM which controls how the siren operates.  Finally, the box in the bottom right hand corner is the blower box.  Inside the blower box is a machine that draws in air and forces it up the standpipe (pipe going up the pole to the left of the blower) which in turn is projected through the horn at the top

of the pole.  Out of site below the photo is the electrical breaker with supplies the siren with electricity.

Here is a closer look at the ARCH Cabinet.  Notice the old Civil Defense logo.  This gives you a clue

as to when this siren was installed.

Here is a closer look at the blower box.  Notice the old Thunderbolt logo.  You can barely see the spot

where the old civil defense decal was located, just below the T-bolt logo.

Here is a view looking up the pole.  This photo doesn't do justice to just how

big the Thunderbolts actually are.

Here's a closer shot of the Thunderbolt 1000T.  Good thing it isn't test day!
