Tribute To Engine 60

Three a.m. in a raging storm,
They hear the shrill alarm;
Pyro's on the loose again,
Intent on doing harm.

In seconds, clad with Nomex shields,
They're upon the crimson steed;
Rushing out into the night
To help someone in need.

The battlefield is all aglow
With Pyro's fiery breath,
And in his jaws - a little boy
Is facing certain death.

They plow into the dragon's heart
And draw their sword of rain,
Then thrust it deep in Pyro's throat
To snuff out his blazing flame.

Boy and home have both been spared
From Pyro's vicious prank.
Their task complete - they soon retreat
Without accepting thanks.

Who are these who risk their lives,
Wherever they may go?
They're the brave courageous men
Of Engine Six and O.

*Written in honor of the crew
of Shelby County (TN) Engine Company Sixty,
which was decommissioned in 1998.
You will all remain immortalized
within the story you helped me write.
