It Began With The Moon And The Stars

They say: "No such thing,
This love can't exist...
Your heart is deceived
By his smile and his kiss."

I say: "Perhaps true from your point of view,
But I've longed for a love such as ours;
Just watch and you'll know, while true love yet grows,
It begins with the moon and the stars."

Weeks pass and they see,
Still say: "Time is the key;"
No way I can know
That you are for me.

I say: "Perhaps true from your point of view,
But I've longed for a love such as ours;
Like a river, it's strong, yet soft as the dawn,
And it began with the moon and the stars."

Soon after these days,
When bells can be heard,
Those wondering now
Will remember the words...

When I said: "Perhaps true from your point of view,
But I've longed for a love such as ours;"
Though as sure as the sun our bond has become,
We began with the moon and the stars.

Forever Is A Circle

Forever is a circle,
One without an end;
A journey, once it's started,
That won't begin again.

Poets pen of its desire;
Minstrels portray it in song;
Artists see it in soothing color;
Lovers dream of it all lifelong.

Forever is a circle,
A seal between two hearts
Bound by love and loyalty;
One, only death can part.

Beneath a Carolina moon,
A few evenings or so ago,
Forever finally touched me
In a way I'd never known.

Yes, Forever indeed is a circle -
A sparkling yellow band.
And mine I promised to give him
When he placed one on my hand.

*Author's Note: On an evening when most people were at home,
(11-25-99) counting their many blessings, one man opened his establishment
*much thanx to Steve, the owner of Encore in Columbia, SC*
thus providing the setting for this precious fragment of forever.
And thank you, dear Rick, for the first of a lifetime of beautiful memories.
I am, and always shall be, eternally yours.

My Star In The Distance

Ten thousand doubts, or so, ago
I saw you in my mind,
A vision of every dream I've known,
Before I ran out of time.

My life was one of sorrow;
Happiness passed me by.
With the dawn of each tomorrow,
I watched all my chances die.

Then I lost my reason for living.
My strength was all but gone;
I accepted what I had chosen
Until I had no will to go on.

Yet you were there in the distance,
Like a victory song, unsung;
You only had to find me
Before my race was run.

You're all my questions, answered;
Hope, taking me by the hand;
A light in perpetual darkness;
My guide through uncharted land.

I promise to always love you;
You're a dream come true, and more.
I thank you, my star in the distance,
For showing this ship to shore.

All Of The Above

(A) burning light in gloomy skies,
Your presence proved to be.
A warmth you've wrapped about my soul;
Such is the world to me.

(B)eneath the stars of solitude,
On a quiet autumn morn,
One wounded heart was healed;
Another was reborn.

(C)aring adds to sharing.
The treasure is received.
A prayer is being answered;
If only we believe.

(D)are to seize the promise,
Know friendship, passion, love,
With she who wants your lifetime laced
With all of the above.

Unbridled Country

I am unbridled country;
You're a captain crossing seas;
With your sights upon my riches,
You came to conquer me.

I saw you in the distance,
Your ship tossed by the swells,
Yet your courage did not waver
For you knew my waters well.

As your vessel neared my beaches,
The ocean began to roar,
I felt the mountains shudder;
The heavens began to pour.

Still you found your way within me,
Your instruments in hand;
As skilled as one born native
You crossed into my land.

With love, your strongest ally,
The unbridled land is yours,
For the white flag of surrender
Now flies upon her shore.

Belonging

Belonging is something that happens,
Like tears just come when you cry,
An unspoken sense that someone is there
Without having to ask or know why.

Belonging is two of a feather,
How night always falls after day;
It's a blending, as ivory and midnight
Together become shades of gray.

Belonging is: ducks in the water,
It's an eagle that soars on a breeze,
Candy and children, peace with the dove,
Why dolphins can glide through the sea.

Belonging feels like a perfect fit,
Like a hand is embraced by a glove;
It occurs with the ease of a smile,
And it looks just like we do... in love.

If I Could Sing One Word To The World

If I could sing one word to the world,
One as soft as a mourning dove,
With a melody expressing acceptance,
Conveying both warmth and love...

If I could sing one word to the world,
One assisting all essence to grow,
Like an ongoing feast before the poor
When starvation is all they have known...

If I could sing one word to the world,
One creating a warm abode,
Like a place of comfort to turn to
When we come to that "bend" in the road...

If I could sing one word to the world,
One ignited by passion's flame,
Soothing the soul, embracing the heart...
It would surely be ... Your Name!

The Package

There are days my husband leaves
without a wave good-bye;
Other times he snaps at me
without a reason why.
When I reflect on how things were
those days before we met,
I overlook these little things
and feel more thankful yet...

Gangs controlled the neighborhood
my sons and I called home.
How I feared for their safety
when they played outside alone.
Though struggling to support them,
my efforts pale at best,
I often thought of giving up
when facing one more test.
My dreams saw trouble every night;
my days were always sad.
Any good that graced my life
was far outweighed by bad.
That was when I turned to Him,
poured out my heart's desires;
Because there was so much to share,
I sometimes prayed for hours.
Yes, my order was quite tall,
I asked for many things:
Love, both sensitive and strong,
to mend my broken wings;
A tough, hard-working, handsome man,
like Joseph long ago,
Who might agree to be the Dad
my boys had never known.

There was no way of knowing
in the midst of those sad days,
That You found the man I wanted
in a town three states away.
Somehow You helped him find me
and on that day I knew
The man I longed to walk beside,
was sent to me by You.
So, Father, help me not forget
my prayers are there in him;
For he's the precious package
that You sent the answers in!
