HOME ARCHIVES | CHOPPED LIVER - A TRIBUTE TO CHRIS HATZIS On Friday 21 of August 1998, after well over a decade as host and producer of Melbourne's best breakfast radio show, Chris Hatzis unknowingly finished his final Breakfasters broadcast. I started listening to the Breakfasters back in 1994, and Chris Hatzis' laid back ramblings with James Young and newsreader Kate Paton immediately grabbed me, and set them apart from the the boring "let's churn a lame joke out every 30 seconds" format of commercial FM radio. Sure they churned out lame jokes, but at least they would openly admit they were lame. Other Breakfaster regulars came and went, but Chris Hatzis was always there, his velvet voice stirring us just after 6:00am every morning. He took off overseas in 1998 and ended up living and working in New York, and loving it (although I'm sure he misses us just as much as we miss him). Who knows what the future may hold? Chris may be back on our airwaves at some stage, or he may go onto bigger things in the States. I'm sure I speak for the vast majority of Breakfaster and indeed 3RRR listeners when I say 'Thank you' to Chris for all his years of entertaining us, and we wish him every success that the future surely must hold.
