CANINE COOKIES

Ingredients:

Makes 30-40

1 ¾ cups plain flour
½ cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons wheatgerm or bran
¼ cup sesame seeds or rolled oats
½ cup ground walnuts (or almonds)
rind of 1 lemon
1 egg, beaten
125 grams butter, softened
splash of vanilla essence*

Method:

Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.
Grease two trays or cover in grease proof paper.
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix then knead until well combined.
Using a rolling pin, roll mixture out on a floured board, to approx 1 cm thick.
Using a cookie cutter or small glass cut out shapes and place on baking tray.
Bake at 200 degrees C for 12 minutes. Cover cookies if they start to burn.
Allow to cool on the tray before transferring them to wire rack to cool completely.

*You can add a teaspoon of dried chicken or beef stock if you so desire.
