Scribblers Brevard

Our meeting was called to order by our illustrious President Jean. We had 3 guests present.  Art Nolan who is dabbling in writing currently. Also visitors Mike and Kitty Shimik. Kitty has been writing off and on for 30 years and has been published two times. Mike is writing a book on Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

 

The minutes from our meeting on 23 May were read and approved after one minor change.

 

Treasurer stated we currently have $5866.93 in our account. There are no deposits to be made

 

Old business: Literary editor’s report was read by Jean. Norma has the results from the poetry judges. We should have those results and possibly those from the prose at our next meeting.

 

Business manager: Still an ample supply of last years Driftwood for sale at “a can’t” beat price of $5. Previous editions are being sold at $3 a copy. Copies of previous of the Driftwood were given to our visitors.

 

David also explained the process for getting a story published in the Driftwood; for our visitors. He included the cost of the publication if one has a story in it.

 

Angela mentioned again her daughter’s bookstore called Patrick Paperbacks. It is located at 1680 A1A Suite #3. It is the only bookstore from Cape Canaveral to Sebastian on that stretch of road.

 

New Business: We have our free luncheon coming up on July 25th. Members can bring spouses, friends and family.  Members only will have their lunch paid for. It was asked for suggestions on where to hold the luncheon. Suggestions were: Mezza Luna (Angela is checking on the prices), Mimi’s, Squid Lips, Patrillo’s, Salt and Sweet, Carabas’ Italian American Club and Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty. Nancy was called upon to check out the prices for the Lobster Shanty.

 

Voting for the location will be done at our next meeting.

 

Frank thanked those who had brought in goodies for our refreshments. There was quite a selection!

 

Walt passed around a book he and Betty had put together. It was about Betty’s dog Kickapoo.

 

Frank still has copies of his book Salt In My Sock for sale. If interested please see him.

 

Norris Burke an ex Air force Chaplin will be speaking tonight at the Gleason Auditorium at FIT. He is currently a columnist at Florida Today.

 

With our VP not in attendance, Jean announced the first reader for the day.

 

Lori Crand read a heart wrenching portion of her autobiography called Country Squire.

 

Nancy Clark was next. Reading a story called What To Do. She followed this with some of her Haikus. The first was called Icy Rose. Other titles included: Hurricane, A Summer Night and the last Cherry Blossoms.

 

Angela Reilla read another excerpt from her family memories. She did not have a title for it yet. She promised to have one by our next meeting.

 

Mike Shimik our visitor gave a brief part of his blog/book called Consciousness: From  A Canopy. A look at PTSD.

 

Scott Tilley teased us with a brief idea about a story he had not quite finished when it was his time to read. It was named Super, Natural. It is something about his most current trip to British Columbia.

 

Meeting was adjourned at 1145 with an invitation for lunch at San Remo.
