Scribblers Brevard

June 27,  2009

Our meeting was called to order by our President Jean. We had no guests present.

The minutes from our meeting on 13 June were read and approved.

There was no Treasurer report.

Old business: Norma reported that all of the judges results were in and everyting has been turned over to Edith. Edith noted she has about 11 more items to put in the Driftwood and the book will be ready for proofing. She hopes that the proofreaders will be able to get it back to her by the July 25th luncheon meeting.

Then Edith will be able to get the book over to the publishers! The  publisher will need at least part of the cost at that time.

There was one problem with one of our poetry judges, who could not find any poetry worthy of printing. A new judge had to be found.

Edith will setting up a special section in this year’s book for photos. There were several photos that did not fit well with any story. She felt that these deserved a place in the book.

Business manager: Still an ample supply of last years Driftwood for $5. Previous editions are being sold at $3 a copy. It was noted we had 250 copies printed last year and possible that number should be cut back for this years printing.

A new portion for the meeting started, called FYI. It will contain any information that could be useful to members. Tara had found an intersting website where authors could look for a publishers. The address is: WWW.writersmarket.com

Old Business: We need help with the hospitality until Fran comes back in August.

It was mentioned about Angela’s daughter Elva and her bookstore. How she would be willing to hold book signings for our books. She will review your book to see if she would have a signing party for you. She also offfers a 20% discount on all new books. She can be reached at Patrick Paperbacks phone 777-0170.

Frank still has copies of his book Salt In My Sock for sale. If interested please see him.

New Business: We have our free luncheon on July 25th. Members can bring spouses, friends and family.  Members only will have their lunch paid for.  The luncheon will be held at Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty on A1A. It is just North of the Air Force Base. Meal selections were voted on:

Appetizer: Lobster Bisque

Salad: Caesar

Entrees: Salmon, Apricot Chicken and Seafood Combo

Nancy is going to check to see what is included in the Seafood Combo. She will be sending out an email to all member to inform.

We will need a new Vice President as Roberta has had to step down. Nancy has volunteered to stand in until the slate is set in October.

Carolyn Newby has brought in some very, very old copies of the Drifwood. She has these for sale, please see her if you are interested.

Nancy entered her Haiku entitled Icy Rose in a poetry contest sponsored by Horticulture Magazine.

Jean acting as VP announced our readers for the day:

Edith Thomas was up first with a story entitled Dignity Lost. Her second piece was called Bond of Love. Both of which she said came to her in dreams.

Nancy Clark read more of her Haiku’s: Spider’s Web, Leaves, Chrysanthemum, Cypress Knees, Scarecrow, Sandstone, Susie, and finished with White Blankets.

David Clark followed with a true Army story he called A Promotion Party For Arthur Greenbush.

Tara Gabor read a short story she was going to submit to a writing contest. It was called My Story. We wish her luck!

Angel Reilla once again delighted us with a story from her family. This gem was called Essential Day Care.

Gus Venegas was our final reader for the day. He read another chapter from his autobiography. This section was  Castro’s Justice…?

Meeting was adjourned at 1145 with an invitation for lunch at San Remo.

Respectfully,

Nancy Clark
