Our meeting
was called to order by our President Jean at 10:00. There we no visitors
present
Voting was
done before the meeting for the cover of this years Driftwood. The top two photos were voted on by the members present.
A photo of the old Lobster Shanty taken by Nancy Clark was voted on for the
cover.
There were no
minutes from our July 25th meeting
as this was our annual member luncheon.
Once again we
did not have a treasurer report as he is still out of town on business..
Old business:
Edith announced that the Driftwood is
ready to go to the printers. She will be making the final check to make sure
all the pages, table of contents etc are in order. She will be taking to the printers on Monday.
Thanks to
David Clark and Peggy Downey Ball for all their help with the proofreading of
the book!
Business
manager: Still an ample supply of last years Driftwood for $5. Previous editions are being sold at $3 a copy.
FYI. Jean announced the Gem show at the
Jean read a
letter she felt needs to be sent to this years judges. She and other members
were highly upset over their critiquing of our stories. Words like “boring”,
“infantile” and “predictable ending” had been used.
There was a
rather heated discussion about this letter after she had read it.
New Business:
Edith had brought in some magazines on writing. If anyone found any of
interest, they were welcome to take them.
Lou has a new
book out titled Michael’s Journey.
Anyone interested in a copy the soft cover editions are $12 and hardcover is
$14.
Frank still
has open spots for anyone interested in a New Years Ever cruise. Please see him
for details. He also has copies of his book Salt
In My Socks available.
Acting Vice
President Nancy Clark announced the first reader.
Frank Cona
was our first reader. He read several excerpts from his book Salt In My Socks. One of which that
explained how he got the name for his
book. He then read a informative story about the universe, which was aptly
title Universe.
David Clark was
next with a story called A Streetcar
Named Desire? It was a story about his sister and his trip to bury their
mother and the dream his sister had a few nights before they left.
Tara Gabor
was up with a special guest speaker via cell phone. The author of a book called
Face Of
A Betrayal The author was Lis Wiehl. She answered some questions for
us and explained where she received her inspiration for writing. As a side note
Lis works for Fox News.
Maurice Reiff
was next. He read a email that he had sent to one of his friends about life.
Gus Venegas
read another chapter from his upcoming autobiography. This chapter was entitle
Our final
reader was Lori Crand with a humorous short story called Christmas Cards.
Meeting was
then adjourned at 11:45 with an invitation for anyone who would like over to
