Scribblers Brevard

August 8,  2009

Our meeting was called to order by our President Jean at 10:00. There we no visitors present

Voting was done before the meeting for the cover of this years Driftwood. The top two photos were voted on by the members present. A photo of the old Lobster Shanty taken by Nancy Clark was voted on for the cover.

There were no minutes from our July 25th  meeting as this was our annual member luncheon.

Once again we did not have a treasurer report as he is still out of town on business..

Old business: Edith announced that the Driftwood is ready to go to the printers. She will be making the final check to make sure all the pages, table of contents etc are in order.  She will be taking to the printers on Monday.

Thanks to David Clark and Peggy Downey Ball for all their help with the proofreading of the book!

Business manager: Still an ample supply of last years Driftwood for $5. Previous editions are being sold at $3 a copy.

FYI.  Jean announced the Gem show at the Melbourne Civic Center this weekend.

Jean read a letter she felt needs to be sent to this years judges. She and other members were highly upset over their critiquing of our stories. Words like “boring”, “infantile” and “predictable ending” had been used.

There was a rather heated discussion about this letter after she had read it.

New Business: Edith had brought in some magazines on writing. If anyone found any of interest, they were welcome to take them.

Lou has a new book out titled Michael’s Journey. Anyone interested in a copy the soft cover editions are $12 and hardcover is $14.

Frank still has open spots for anyone interested in a New Years Ever cruise. Please see him for details. He also has copies of his book Salt In My Socks available.

Acting Vice President Nancy Clark announced the first reader.

Frank Cona was our first reader. He read several excerpts from his book Salt In My Socks. One of which that explained how he got the name for  his book. He then read a informative story about the universe, which was aptly title Universe.

Tara Gabor was up with a special guest speaker via cell phone. The author of a book called Face Of  A Betrayal The author was Lis Wiehl. She answered some questions for us and explained where she received her inspiration for writing. As a side note Lis works for Fox News.

Maurice Reiff was next. He read a email that he had sent to one of his friends about life.
