Scribblers of Brevard
March 8, 2008
Our illustrious President David Clark called the meeting to order at 10:00. Ronald Williams introduced himself as a visitor and a new writer.
David reported there was no change in the balance in the checking account. Scott is still working on updating the membership list. Scott also emailed stating there are still a number of members who have not renewed their memberships. David reminded those who have not paid to please pay their dues as soon as possible so the new membership roster could be given out. Emails will be sent out to those who still need to pay.
It was also brought up about privacy issues of members possibly not wanting their personal information handed out to everyone. If there is anyone wishing not to have information given out please let Scott know.
Also discussed was some members do not have email addresses thus making it hard to contact them for any reason.
Old Business: None
New Business: Jean Pastula mentioned that Lathan Hudson would be performing at the Cocoa Beach Library on March 9 at 2:00.
Our President’s musings: A quotation is a noun. For example when the GEICO gecko says call to get a quote, that is wrong. One calls to get a “quotation”. Quote is a verb. A quote becomes a quotation when one writes it down and surrounds it with quotation marks!
More new business more information needs to be distributed to members about the upcoming Driftwood. Nancy stated she would resend out the information to members.
While on the subject of the Driftwood the issue of the sentence in the FORMAT section: "Only one entry of 2500 words or three of 1500 words or less by any one author will be used" the word "or" was changed to "and." So it now reads: "Only one entry of 2500 words AND three of 1500 words or less by any one author will be used" There was a vote and approved by those present. In other words, you may submit as many 1500-word stories and as many 2500-word stories as you wish without worry that acceptance of works in one category will preclude selection in the other.
Jean said she would write up some sort of advertisement for publication about accepting stories for the Driftwood.
Roberta announced the readers for the day. Nancy read a story called Fond Memories.
She was followed by Fran Peterson who read two selections from her book. The first was entitled The Little Boxes followed by another called Whan_Gop.
Jean read us one with an odd little twist called He Says, She Says.
Lastly Gus read another excerpt called Conversation With Bob, My Therapist.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 with an invitation for lunch at San Remo’s by David Clark
Respectfully submitted
Nancy Clark
