Scribblers of Brevard 09 Feb 08

Our president David Clark gaveled the meeting to order at 10:00.

New member Eileen Callan was introduced. She told us a bit about the Toastmaster’s Club she belongs to up at Patrick Air Force Base. They meet on the first and third Wednesday’s of each month at 12 p. m.. She hand out some business cards for anyone who might have been interested.

No treasures report from the treasurer as he was not at the meeting. The president had no updated information on the account. Old

Business: Reading Festival being held at Riverfront Park in Cocoa. On March 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We did it last year and it would be nice if we could do it again this year. We are allowed to place our books on the table but they cannot be sold. Flyers will be handed out to those stopping by who might be interested. New volunteers to help out Jean Pastula and Fran Peterson. A motion was passed that we man a table. Details of a schedule will be discussed at the next meeting.

More Old Business: Regarding one meeting in January. This was discussed and decided that two meeting will be held in January. The first meeting will be a Luncheon/Meeting on the second Saturday and our regular meeting be held on the fourth Saturday. A motion was made and was seconded on this. Will need to make sure that next year this notice goes out in plenty of time so to alleviate any confusion.

Driftwood – Information on the new edition of the Driftwood should have already been sent out to all members. Leila said she had sent them out to all members she had addresses for. Many have not seen it yet. Nancy got a copy of the update information from and Edith. She is going to scan it and send it out to all those members she has email addresses for. New Business: Leila said she had already been getting submissions for the new edition of the Driftwood. She will hold on to these until she can contact Norma who is the literary editor this year.

Gus brought up that Bill Allen had his book Greg Hart, Dragonslayer published and had brought in copies of it. Bill said copies were $10 even though the asking price was $14.95 as he defaces them by autographing the copies!

Peggy Ball announced she had a poem entered in the Florida Today, Valentine poetry contest. She asked that we all go out and vote on it! Sure hope she won!!

Our esteemed and power hungry president announced he will be throwing in a “grammarian corner” each meeting. It will be about something he finds in student papers at BCC. This weeks was “FUN”. Fun is NOT a noun it is an ADJECTIVE.

Roberta Womack announced the readers for the day.

First up was Ruth Murdock who read two poems she wrote for her Valentine. The first one was entitle Through Your Eyes and the second My Love For You. She also read another poem entitled Storms Of Life. She said she had written it a few days before the tsunamis hit.

Marjorie Selzweld read a work in progress called Ghost Of Old Things.

Leila Harper had a poem she said was not for the coinsures of literature. It was a hilarious poem called Redneck Love Poem. She then read us three stories she had written in 1968. The first was titled I Remember The State Fair”, the second Yellow China Bowl and the last Death’s Lesson.

Peggy Ball read her entry into the Today newspaper poetry contest. Awakening.

Lastly Gus Venegas read more from his life story a section called My State of Mind Before Going to Rehab. The meeting was adjourned by

David Clark at 11:30.
