2008
Our meeting
was called to order at 10:00 by our illustrious vice president. We had one
guest present, Joan Trayworth. She has just recently started writing some of
her memories.
Scott just
got back from his trip to
Old
Business – There were numerous problems with this years Driftwood. The book was
not finished when it was dropped off at the publishers. None of the corrections
were made to the typographical erros. All of Edith’s work had been changed
around. Pictures no longer matched any of the stories that they belonged with.
Many of the photos were not cropped.
Edith spent over an hour and a half with Paul of Bluenote Publishers
getting all of the errors cleaned up.
Edith was
asked if she would continue to be the art editor next year. She said she would under one condition that we give the final draft of the
Driftwood to the publisher and let them do the set up. They will set it up
exactly the way we want it. This should cost us an extra $300-$400.
Members
present thought it was well worth it. Discussion is tabled until our next
meeting when more members are present.
Gus thanked
Edith, Walt and Marjorie for all their hardwork. He stated the publisher had
charged us $120.00 for the extra work he had to do. Driftwood 26 should be
ready mid November. This puts a damper on our book signing at Lori’s art
studio.
Jean had
some information on the Boat Cruise Luncheon. The price would be $45 per
person. Included in the price; music,
cash bar, Buffet consisting of: fresh fruit salads, pasta salad, green salad,
hot sliced pork or beef on a bun with barbecue sauce and brownies. Most at the
meeting thought members would not be willing to pay this much. So this idea is
being scratched and other locations for our luncheon will be considered.
Gus still
has old Driftwoods for sale.
New
Business: Lou announced his book Farmer
and the Tree has been published. He had a few copies for sale for $13.
Roberta
called our first reader.
Maurice
read an article by the Dan Griffith, President of the Florida Writers
Association entitled Words and Music: The Writers Song. Also another article from the Florida
Writers Assocation called I Am Ann
Lamont.
Lou was
next and read The Farmer and The Tree. The book is about the discussion the farmer
had with a tree. How the tree felt angry at being dropped there as a seed, but
discovered just how much he was needed by the farm animals. It helped the
farmed see just how he was also need by the same animals.
Gus gave us
another look at life in
Scott was
our last reader. He read a story he wrote while at the meeting. Guess one never
knows when inspiration will hit. His story was entitled Beaches of
