Scribblers Of Brevard

April 26 2008

Our meeting was called to order at 10:00 AM, by our Vice President Roberta Womack. Angela Dally introduced herself as a new member. We had no visitors today.

Secretary Nancy Clark was back and thanked Jean for taking the minutes while she was away. Minutes from the April 12th were read. The minutes needed to be corrected after it was mentioned that member Hal Gold had read at the 12 April meeting.  His story was called “A Still Small Voice”. Once the minutes were ammended they were there then approved.

Treasurer Scott Tilley was gave us his treasurer’s report. We now have $4525 in the treasurey and he has $412 pending transaction that would be deposited after today’s meeting. Scott explained his reason for the delay in getting our membership roster out. He did not want to leave off any names of members who might not have paid there dues. He wanted to make sure everyone was included. The currernt updated roster was handed out and each member who has email will also be sent a copy of the roster. Scott also said if any information was wrong to please let him know so corrections could be made.

One correction that needed to be made was that Debbie Petrigrew was not the current Art Editor. Edith Thomas is and this correction will be made.

New Business: Our Norma Jean Baird, turned in all entries she had to the judges for our new edition of the 'Driftwood". Edith says she received plenty of artwork for Driftwood as well.

.

Readers for today were announced.

Maurice stated off as he read us a factual story about his grandfather called My Father’s, Father Lost in  A Midnight Sea. He said the information in it was found in records found in a library in England.

Nancy read to us next with a story called Meditation. It was about the simple pleasures of enjoying the wonderfulness of nature that is all around us. We just need to stop for a moment and blend with it.

Carol delighted us with memories of her familiers trip to Greece in a story entitled Day One In Athens. A wonderful look at a first day expereince in a foreign country.

Lori reminisced with another tidbit from her autobiography. This chapter is called Swing and Sway With Sammy Kay. She is now out of college. She and her new beau go a theater where Sammy Kay is playing.  She is picked out of the audience and ends up on stage to see if she could lead Sammy Kay’s band. Well, she could and she won!

Marjorie read us story based on her mother-in-law called ______. It was about a lady lost in time in a nursing home. How she and her nurse interacted together. A very nice story of how one can deal with a patient with Alzheimer’s.

Jean came up with another twist to the story she had started several meetings back. The story called He Says She Says.. She has now picked up where Walt had left off. Her plan is to see how far the group can take this story and possibly turn into a book.  Hortense goes to another train station to put the package which is all wrapped up with duct tape and hide it in a locked. Later she makes her way back to this station gets the package again and stashes it among the stacks of books in her library…..where it ends up disappearing AGAIN! Stay tuned for more….

Hal started reading to a new story he is working on called Maddie. A story that begins with a collective bargaining meeting with union officials at a large company. This meeting started out at 8:00 in the morning and it is now 11:00 at night. Louis one of the others involved in the meeting ask that they take a bit of a break  While on this break Maddie starts having memories of days gone by.

Roberta adjourned the meeting at 1130 and reminded everyone of the luncheon over at San Remo’s

Submitted respectfully,
