DRIFTWOOD XXVIII- 2009 Guidelines
ELIGIBILITY -- Any Brevard County resident, except
manuscript judges, may submit poetry, prose, artwork, and photography.
Submissions must be original, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere.
All rights revert to the author, artist, or photographer after publication. Work
must conform to the contest rules or it will not be considered.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Prose: Fiction or nonfiction not to exceed 2500 words, double-spaced.
Poetry:100 or fewer, printed lines, single-spaced.
Title required on all poems except haiku. Artistic layout accepted.
Format: Send 4 copies of each work. Only neat, clearly printed work on 8.5 x 11 white, high-quality paper will be considered. Only first-generation copies from a clear, original, printed manuscript can be properly scanned. Do not write in pen or pencil on your manuscript. Manuscripts in all caps or script will not be accepted. You may submit as many entries as you want, but only two (2) entries will be printed. At the committee‘s discretion it may be extended to three (3). Use 12-point Times New Roman. Center title in all caps. Enter any number of pieces, but only one 2500 word entry will be used. The remainder can be poetry or short story. On original copy: Type authors name, address, phone number, and e-mail address (if any) in the upper left-hand corner. Do not use address stickers. Put the word count for prose in the upper right-hand corner. Word count not necessary on poetry. Three copies for judges. Identify judges’ copies by title and page numbers only; do not identify author. The original and all copies must be exactly the same. Please use spell check, good grammar and a computer print out. Help is always available if you need it.
Art: Do not submit originals. Submit 3.5 x 5 or 4 x 6 photographs of your work. The original work may be pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, oil paint, acrylic, or other. Driftwood is published in black and white Only the cover is printed in color.
Photography: Submit 3.5 x 5 or 4 x 6
photographs. All entries must be the submitter’s own work. Photographs will be
scanned and changed to black-and-white format for publication.
No more than 10 entries may be submitted by any one person. Name, address, phone
number, e-mail address (if any). must be on the back of each entry. The
anthology cover will be selected by member vote at the first meeting in August.
ENTRY FEES: Members of Scribblers: $3 each poetry or prose up to 1500 words. Nonmembers $5 each entry. Stories over 1500 words are charged $5.00 for members and $8.00 for nonmembers. There is no entry fee for art and photography.
DEADLINES: Prose and poetry must be in the hands of the Literary Editor no later than April 11, 2009. Mail to Literary Editor: Norma Baird, 250 Banana Blvd, Merritt Island, Fl 32952.
