Why the Point | The Building | Where is it? | The Big Picture  | Details of the Day

Why The Point?
All the festivities will be held at the Point Restaurant, on Albert Park Lake. There is pretty much one reason for this: Puns. We dream of the following conversation:

Guest: Hey! Where are you going to get married? And by the way, Brian, your hair looks quite "thick and lustrous", not "thinning" like other people say.
Brian: Gosh, thanks, I've been using Pantene. Anyway, we are going to get married at The Point.
Guest: What's the point?
Kristine: The point is to get married, duh!  Psst, Brian, the guy's clueless - he's off the invite list.

The Building

Perched on the side of the lake like the carcass of an exploded-stomached Black Swan, the Point looks out over Albert Park's famous lake, which that time of year should be filled with cute little sailboats, and Albert Park's Famous Black Swans. The swans will be sweating like ducks, whinging to each other about what a silly colour black is, and couldn't they be in a nice white suit, or maybe little Speedos.

Not Pictured

The actual room in which  we will be having the reception.

If you follow the upper floor balcony around the lake side of the building, you'd come to our room.

Since the balconies aren't connected, you would, however, fall quite painfully onto the concrete below before arriving there. We recommend entering from the inside.

Please Note:

While Parks Victoria does not encourage it, we definitely encourage guests climbing the tower and dropping bricks on joggers and on Albert Park's famous Black Swans.

But where is it?

Anyone who has ever used America's MapQuest should give Australia's WhereIs a try. I dare you - it is possibly the worst mapping system. Ever. Here's where WhereIs thinks The Point is. You can even get driving directions, but plan on having to catch a cab once you follow them, because who knows where you'll end up. The oft-used phrase "Where Is a cab, the stupid website got me lost" is how the site got its name.

Please Note:
If the "melways ref" doesn't make sense, you're probably not from around here. Everyone in this town has the same frigging map, and they all use map references to say where they live, where to eat, the nearest chiropodist, etc.

Everyone except Kristine & Brian, who bought Bob' Big Cheap map, thereby saving $5, but never able to get anywhere.

More context?
Kristine recently won a contest on a local radio station and got a ride on a helicopter over Port Phillip Bay. In between vomiting, she took this picture, which shows Albert Park from high over the bay.

Please Note:

In the foreground is St Kilda Pier. It basically points at our house - walk about 500 metres and you are there.

The lake in the middle is the lake above. If you can't figure out where The Point is, perhaps you should consider a career in unemployment. Or on the dole.

Behind the lake is the city - our beautiful Melbourne. Unfortunately, The Point faces the wrong way and you won't get to see the city from the reception, but the view will still be quite nice.

For those who care, the Australian Grand Prix circuit runs around the lake - the square shapes in front of the lake are pit row. The race is the first weekend of March - contact Brian if you're interested.
