Stuff around the world

Kristine and Brian have been together a long time. A very long time. A really reaaally looooong time. Anyway, over these years they have accumulated a lot of stuff - households of the stuff. Since the point of the wedding gift is to give stuff to the stuffless couple, we are a bit unique, given our stuff-full circumstances, since, as we said, we've got stuff. So there you have it.

The other issue, of course, is what Australians refer to as the Quandry of Geography (or as they say here "Quanno Geo"). The core of this principle is this: Australia is a looong way from just about everywhere. Now this is REALLY useful for things like not haveing to help paint your ancestral manor (parents' place). It is, however, a huge pain for shipping things TO here or FROM here. All in all, it points towards having LESS stuff, not MORE!

Where's their stuff?
(note the vast distances between locations)

A: Melbourne. Current residence, an entire household full of things.
B: Portland. Brian's parents are storing enough to furnish a small flat.
C: Washington, DC. Kristine's parents' basement is packed with furniture.
D: Philadelphia. Brian's skis, and other things he forgot to take care of.
E: Woomera. If Brian's residence application doesn't come through, Brian & Kristine will be sent to this immigrant detention centre. Not sure if we get to take our stuff, but pretty sure it won't be of much use there. Well, maybe the thread will be...

The Honeymoon
For anyone interested in giving us a wedding gift, we'd like to suggest sponsoring a portion of the Honeymoon (or as Australians call it, using their clever rhyming slang, the "Bunny Goon").  The Bunny Goon will have an East meets West theme, and will come in two parts.

Part I - New Zealand

New Zealand is to Australia as Canada is to the US - unless you are from NZ, you sort of assume that it's the same as its better known, handsomer cousin. The coolest thing about New Zealand is their defence policy - they recently eliminated their Air Force, and are thinking about turning their Navy into a whaling fleet. The idea is that anyone that is going to attack NZ will have to attack Australia first - let the Aussies do the fighting!

Anyway, we'll start the trip in New Zealand, on the South Island.

Itinerary:

March 26: Melbourne to Christchurch
March 26 - April 4: Various outdoors, hike-y, nature-y things
April 4: Christchurch to Melbourne

"The Boot of the
Southern Hemisphere"

Note the clever naming convention in use: the island on top is called "North Island" -- Maori for "on top." The other is called the "South Island" -- Maori for "Why are you asking what we call it? You're just going to call it South"

"The Sock of Asia"

Part II - Vietnam

In spite of arriving late and leaving early (a decidedly un-Australian thing to do if there is drinking involved), Australians had a big involvement in the Vietnam war. Kristine and Brian will attempt to discover the ANZAC spirit while traveling through the land of the yak. Plus, we are hoping to get some good Thai food there.

Itinerary

April 4: Melbourne to Hanoi
April 4 - 8: Hang out in Hanoi, visit Jane Fonda's house, etc
April 8- 10: Halong Bay
April 10 - 12: Mekong River Delta, boat tour, napalm factory visit
April 12 - 17: Ho Chi Minh (also known as Ho-Town) area, visit the music clubs, dance, etc.
April 17 - 19: Nha Trang, relax a few days
April 20: HoTown to MelTown

Contribute Through Our Travel Agent
One of two ways to contribute to the honeymoon is by giving money directly to our travel agent. Ester will take your donation and even create a gift certificate for you!

Here's the catch: She will only take cheques in Australian currency: no credit card payments at all. This therefore is probably only a good choice for local Aussies. If your money does NOT look like the pictures below, skip to the next section.

Please Note:
For those of you who haven't seen it yet, note the Australian currency to the right. You can tell the denomination by the colour and size! It is awesome. The best part of Australian money is the people on it:

$10 : Richard Gere - you can see him just peaking over...
$20: Ben Franklin - seen just peaking over...
$5 : Evita Peron
$20 : (other sideof the bill) Woodrow Wilson
$10 : (other side of the bill) Harry S Truman

Also fun: there's a typo on the $50 bill!

Contribute Direct to Brian & Kristine
Another way to contribute is directly to Kristine and Brian. Feel free to mail us a check. You can trust us. No really.

There USED to be a sexy ecommerce gateway that showed off what a dotcom GURU Brian is...but it was pissing us off so we canned it. Sorry!

Other shopping options
If you don't like either of the above options, Russell Coight, our bridal registry concierge, is happy to recommend a few local ideas. Note that we haven't actually registered at them, but they are good sites nonetheless.

Dan Murphy's (many locations)
6 J's Wine Merchants - Prahran Market
www.wineplanet.com

If you asked him, Russell would say, "Fair dinkum, go for Shiraz, Cab Sav, Merlot or Chardys if yer buying for Brian & Kristine! Ya ripper!"

"G'day! How can I help you?"

The Great Silly Gift Swap

Just for fun, Kristine and Brian will be integrating the Norwegian wedding tradition of "Lerfahurtenfooten,"(note: Brian is half Norwegian). At Norwegian weddings, each guest brings a small wrapped gift of little value, but of interest, humour or charm. This gift is not for the bride and groom, but to be exchanged with other guests.

If you are attending our wedding, please consider participating in "Lerfs" -- bring a small gift, the kind of thing you would find at your local $2 store. Place it on the Lerfs table at the reception. As you depart, you will receive a random Lerf back - and open it in front of everyone, to the amusement of all!

In spite of the tone of much of this site -- we really plan to do this!! Have fun, hit the two dollar shoppe, and, as they say in Stockholm: "Just Lerf It!"

Potential Lerfahurtenfooten gifts include the below:
