14th Pakistan Scrabble Championship
Veteran Anwar Siddiqui Clinches the 2002 Title
The 14th All Pakistan Scrabble Championship was organized by PSA on the 8th and 9th of June 2002 at the Beach Luxury Hotel. The Championship, which was spread over 18 games on a Swiss Pairing System, saw drama full of excitement and tension. Mr. Anwar Siddiqui who last won this prestigious title in 1992, beat the likes of the defending champion Mr. Rashid Khan, 3-times ex-champion Mr. Wajid Iqbal and the veteran Mr. Abdul Jabbar on his way to once again lift the coveted title.
Mr. Abdul Jabbar kept up the pressure and secured the second spot with 26 points against the 28 points of Mr. Anwar Siddiqui. Finally, after a good start, Mr. M. Sulaiman held his nerves to edge out Mr. Tajammul Shah for the 3rd position. Mr. Tajammul Shah came in 4th, which was well deserved.
Much was expected from the 3-time champion Mr. Wajid Iqbal but he was not able to live up to his reputation and finished the tournament in the 7th position. The same could be said about the defending champion Mr. Rashid Khan who ended up with the 5th position.
