CHALLENGES BASED ON
QUOTES AND EVENTS IN EPISODES
BTVS SEASON 1
BTVS SEASON 2
"Halloween"
What if Buffy had managed to get Angel into a costume
from Ethan's? What woul he have turned into? How would the episode have
changed?
Do the same with Spike. Have Dru say something about all
the fun they'll have, but don't let Spike know what's going on (people
are turning into their costumes) until it's too late.
BTVS SEASON 3
BTVS SEASON 4
"NEW MOON RISING"
11. Bri Harper’s Conversations #1 Challenge:
At the end of "New Moon Rising", Buffy was obviously about to tell
Riley about Angel, and I doubt that Joss will actually
show us this conversation unless it’s a "Hush"/"Doomed" repeat. Write
out this conversation in story form. Include a visit
with at least one other Scooby Gang member (Giles, Xander, Willow,
or Anya), where they tell Riley what they know
about Angel.
16. Bri’s Conversations #5 Challenge:
What if Tara had stayed and come inside when she came looking for Willow
in the dorm in "New Moon Rising"? What
would have Tara and Oz talked about? What would have happened when
Willow came back into the room?
"THIS YEAR'S GIRL/WHO ARE YOU?"
13. Bri Harper’s Conversations #3 Challenge:
Have Buffy tell Joyce about the switch with Faith in "This Year’s Girl"
and "Who are You?". Bonus points if Joyce sides
with Riley ("he couldn’t have known") and saying something about Buffy
being too young, et cetera, for "that sort of thing
anyway".
"WHO ARE YOU"/["SANCTUARY"]
14. LJ’s A Letter from Faith Challenge:
Faith writes a letter to Buffy from jail after "Sanctuary", trying
to apologize for all the evil she’s done and to explain what
was going on between her and Angel. When Buffy receives it, however,
she refuses to read it, and throws it away
unopened. Willow finds it and opens it when she recognizes Faith’s
name on the return address. Willow reads the
letter…and then what? Is she still sympathetic towards Buffy? Or will
this lead to some serious Buffy-bashing?
Stories answering this challenge: Bridges
by Mari.
15. Bri’s Conversations #4 Challenge:
In "Sanctuary", Buffy says that Giles had heard that Faith was after
Angel. Who told Giles? Write the telephone
conversation between Giles and either Cordelia or Wesley. For bonus
points, add Giles’s conversation with Buffy in
which he informs her of the situation. Any of the Scoobies, or Tara,
or Riley, can be there, or it can be just Giles and
Buffy.
"Superstar"
What if Superstar had been all about Joyce instead of
Jonathan? Y'know, a fic where Joyce is the center of attention in Sunnydale.
As we all know she deserves to be! <g> Anyway, what would it be like?

ANGEL
SEASON 1
"CITY OF..."
Angel: "I was there during the Depression. I mean,
my depression. I was depressed there."
Write about Angel in Missoula, Montana, in the
1930s.
"SHE"
6. LJ’s Charles Baudelaire Challenge:
In "She", Angel makes references to a 19th Century French poet, Charles
Baudelaire. Write a story about Angelus’s encounter with Baudelaire circa
1860-1865, or that someone is told/finds out about the incident. Keep in
mind:
* Spike had not yet been turned.
* Drusilla was turned in 1860, so she will have to make an appearance.
* The poem "Le Vampire", which Angel quoted, was published in the collection
Les Fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil) in 1861. I have provided the poem
in its entirety and an English translation here.
* Was Darla there? What about Penn? Other Childer of Darla and/or Angelus
and/or Penn?
"THE PRODIGAL"
7. Bri Harper’s Liam and Kathy Challenge:
In "The Prodigal" and "Becoming, Part One", we were given insights
into Angel’s life as a human. Write a story about his relationship with
his little sister, Kathy. Also, were there other siblings, dead or alive,
that we didn’t see? What started all of Liam’s problems with his father?
(Or, alternately, why didn’t his father approve of him in the beginning?
Think on Liam’s "with look, with word, with deed" statement.) You might
also want to have the modern-day Angel reflecting on those events, as a
story frame, or as a prologue, an interlude, or an epilogue. Is his relationship
with Cordelia now akin to his relationship with Kathy? Does he see any
of the Slayerette girls - Willow, Cordelia, even Faith - as an incarnation
of Kathy?
BTVS SEASON 5
"Buffy vs. Dracula"
Buffy: "So let me get this straight. You're... Dracula,
the guy, the Count?"
Dracula: "I am."
Buffy: "And you're sure this isn't just some
fanboy thing? 'Cause I've fought more than a couple pimply, overweight
vamps that called themselves Lestat."
Write about either a) or b)
a) Buffy fights a vamp claiming to be Lestat.
b) A Buffyverse vampire (one we know or a made-up
one) reading one of the Vampire Chronicle books by Anne Rice.
Riley: "What can you tell me about Dracula?"
Spike: "Dracula? Poncy bugger owes me 11 pounds,
for one thing."
Riley: "You know him?"
Spike: "Know him? We're old rivals. But then
he got famous, forgot all about his foes."
Write about Spike's encounters with Dracula. Why
does Drac owe him 11 pounds? Don't forget to include Drusilla.
"Real Me"
Buffy: "You put it in neutral again, huh?"
Giles: "I'm just not used to this automatic transmission.
I-I loathe this just sitting here, not contributing. No, no, no, it's not
working out."
Buffy: "Giles, are you breaking up with your
car?"
Giles: "Well, it did seduce me, all red and sporty."
Buffy: "Little two-door tramp!"
Write about Giles going out to buy his new car.
Why this one?
Harmony: "I've been doing my homework,
reading books and stuff."
Spike: "What, 'Evil For Dummies'?"
Have Spike come across a book called Evil For
Dummies, your choice where.
Dawn: "I'll tell Mom you slayed in front of me."
Rewrite the scene in Becoming to include
Dawn when Buffy makes the deal with Spike. Be sure to have Spike leer at
Dawn and ask, "Are you sure I can't eat her?"
Buffy: "Just how bored were you
last summer?"
Giles: "I watched Passions with Spike. We'll
never speak of it again."
Run with it!
"The Replacement"
Imagine that the Toth demon had gone to LA and had
attacked Angel instead of Xander and he split into two. What happens?
Possible divisions: good Angel/evil Angelus;
human Angel/vampire Angelus; Angel/Angelus/weak Liam/strong Liam; Angel/Angelus/good
Liam/evil Liam
Remember: you cannot destroy one without destroying
the other(s). So no killing vampire Angelus so that human Angel can get
back together with Buffy. If you kill vampire Angelus, human Angel will
die.
Again, imagine that the Toth demon had come to LA and
attacked Cordy or Wesley. What happens?
ANGEL SEASON 2
"Judgment"
Attendant: "I'm sorry this club is for members
and their guests only."
Angel: "Yeah, well, I'm thinking of joining."
...
Angel: "That was a nice gym."
Wesley: "...incinerated a month ago. I
think that's what Wolfram and Hart raised in that box when Angel was fighting
Vocah."
Angel: "The thing about a gym is that you're
not alone. You've got people around. That encourages you to
work out."
Cordy: "You don't have to work out.
You're eternal."
Angel: "I may not always be."
Write something about Angel joining an athletics
club sometime in the future, when he's received his reward from the Powers
That Be.
Lindsey: "She likes Chopin and Brahms. Not too fond of
the Russians."
Write about Darla's encounters with either of
these two composers.
Angel: "There are three things I don't do: tan, date,
and sing in public."
Write a story about either Liam or Angelus being
forced to sing in public or in front of his peers and the embarassment
he suffers as a result. Try to include as many "historical" figures (i.e.
Darla, Spike/William, Drusilla, Kathy [Liam's little sister]) as possible.
MC/Anagogic Demon: "Why Mandy?"
Angel: "Well, I know the words. And - I think
it's kinda pretty."
Write about the first time Angel heard the song
Mandy
and his reaction to it.
Angel: "Hey."
Faith: "Hey."
Angel: "How you doing?"
Faith: "Pretty good, I guess. I did
sign up for this."
It seems that Angel may have been visiting Faith
in jail all summer. Write about one of his earlier visits. Bonus points
if it's the first visit he makes after she turned herself in in Sanctuary.
"Dear Boy"
Drusilla: "Snakes in the woodshed."
Use this phrase in a story.
Stories answering this challenge: "Snakes
in the Woodshed" by Bri Harper.
Angelus: "I'll have to come up to snuff for this one."
Write about Drusilla's thoughts in that moment
when she sees Angelus and Darla in the street and what causes her to feel
that she need to protect her family in that moment.
