And the truth to it all is that even *I* have my Uncle Evan wrapped around my little finger! He's the greatest though and I couldn't ask for a better uncle to have! ::kisses his cheek:: Love ya Uncle Evan!

Do not go where the path may lead,
Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Let’s see. Well, I’m Evan. ‘Nuff said? Probably not, eh? Well, it would be if you knew me. But I guess that’s what the point of this little thing is. Remind me to thank Becky for making us do this. I will have to show my gratitude in the best way I know how.

Anyway, I was born a Navy brat. My father was a career Navy man and a very good man he was. I’m the oldest of four kids, only one of which I’ll admit being related to. We moved around a few times when I was a kid, always ending up back in Spokane for some reason. I guess I can’t complain too much, I like it here. It’s where I met Randy, who for some unknown and completely bizarre reason became my best friend. He’s a dark individual and I suppose that we set each other off well. People don’t usually know quite what to make of the two of us, and that is just fine with me. Being mysterious can be very enjoyable.

My father died when I was pretty young and we ended up settling in a place called Otis Orchards, near the Idaho border. Not very far at all from Spokane, in fact. Most people just consider it a part of the city. It’s been a pretty good life all told, although there were a lot of hard times when I was younger. I met Geri in high school and since I was watching over her shoulder I know that she told you all about that so I won’t go into it. Saves me a lot of trouble. She’s good at that.

Randy and I went to college together and after we graduated, we started our own business. I do most of the dealings with the public since alot of it comes over the phone. For some odd reason, Randy would prefer driving miles out of his way to talk to someone in person than to pick up a phone and call. The man doesn’t even own a phone. He stays away from most technology altogether, in fact. The only technological things I know he uses regularly are the car and the computer. I guess we know who the normal one in this friendship is. He’s the best to have beside you in a fight, though. Believe me, I usually end up having him backing me up. Not that I pick a lot of fights, mind you. It’s just that people have a hard time dealing with my blunt ways. In any case, we’ve been friends for many years and will continue to be friends as long as he has the honor of having me put up with him. Lucky guy.

I do have to address the mother-in-law thing. I know it’s some big joke that guys and their mothers-in-law don’t get along, and I hate to be typical. But well, in this case I’ll have to settle for that. For some reason, my personal charm is just lost on the woman. Probably comes from having that stick up her ass. In the end, I don’t like cold people, especially people who are cold to their own kids. The stories I could tell. But I’m a nice guy, so I won’t publicize them. E-mail me for details instead.

As a side note, my girls do NOT have me wrapped around their little fingers. Not a bit. I can be just as non-malleable as the next guy. No matter what anyone tells you. Even Geri. And them. And don’t listen to Gayle, either. She has a big mouth and she likes to exaggerate. But my girls are the greatest, and they’re really very well behaved. There’s no reason for me to be hard on them at all since they’re so good. Of course, I need to keep an eye on them around their cousin Jason. He may be only three, but I can see that he’s already got the potential to corrupt them. Probably Randy’s influence. The kid seems pretty attached to him for some reason. At least Jason is the only one of the kids that Randy seems to be able to inflict his corrupting ways on. Gayle’s daughter Allyn seems to favor me. Smart kid, I really should get her something nice when her birthday comes around. Hell, I’m not above bribing her.

In closing, I have to say that life is pretty damn good. Most of the time. Just one small problem to deal with and things will get better again. Then maybe life can get back to semi-normal, whatever the hell that is.

take yourselves out of the mire and hitch your hopes to the stars.
