photo: Map of Lateau Wood in 1918. Lateau wood is to the north east of the number 13 on the map. The German attack came from the sectors numbered 9, 15 and 20.

The War Diary of 6th Battalion, Queens Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) 30th November 1917.

Usual artillery activity during the night. At 7am the enemy opened an intensive bombardment lasting 3/4 of an hour, he then attacked in force from the direction of Les Rues Des Vignes. Having previously broken through on the South he advanced in a north westerley direction. From Battalion Headquarters no movement to the rear was observed it must be assumed that the whole of the battalion was cut off. Battalion Headquarters resisted the enemy advance until the superiority of numbers of the enemy forced them to retire; they took up positions in ND12C ref sheet GOUZEAUCOURT and contunued fighting until again forced to withdraw; they then fell back on the HINDENBERG Support Line and joined up with the remnants of the 6th The Buffs and 7th East Surrey Regiment, Strength of Battalion 1 Officer (Capt W.G. Love) and 17 other ranks.
