Hide Your Heart Away
This song is my sorta sappy, kinda broken-hearted, maybe cry-in-your-beer kinda/sorta, old-fashioned country waltz number. Jeez.
So, yeah, I suppose if you're ever jonesin' to embrace, validate and emancipate your own inner-George-Jones, you can get nasal and get down on this simple little C&W ditty.
Although I can't say with absolute certainty now, I believe that Martha might've provided a majority of the muse behind the creation of this particular song. If so, and if then included for consideration alongside Martha's Cartharsis Waltz, it would seem that — for some cosmic reason heretofore unimagined — Miss Martha tended to bring out the three-quarter rhythm in me.

Hide Your Heart Away
Words and Music by David R. Lister
So your Don Juan has come and gone
Now it's so hard to keep on keepin' on
Well, it's true time heals
But the healin' takes real long
When you try to deny what you feel
Dreams turned to dust, and so did trust
He called it love, but it was just lust
When you got burned
You learned you must
Hide your heart away
So you hide your heart away, and pray
True love will find you for good, someday
When you got burned
You learned it pays
To hide your heart away
Please don't hide your heart away
