Lullaby
There's not a lot I feel I need to say about this song, I suppose. It's short. It's simple. It's a short and simple lullaby.
I wrote this song some years before my daughter was born, so it was not really written for her, not even in some kind of daydreamy precognitive anticipation of her eventual arrival. (Sorry, Kiddo.) Rather, the inspiration for this itty-bitty ditty was the slumbering lump of young womanhood to whom I was married and who, in due time, would conceive and give birth to our curly-headed Baby Kiddo Girl.
As I recall, the occasion of my muse was one of those intimate moments of watching the then-wife and future-mother-of-my-child while she drifted off into peaceful slumber, the sight of which apparently appealed to some early soft-n-squishy pre-parental, paternal instincts within me. (Ah, shucks, Ma'am.) And, although I really don't recall one way or the other now, I'm assuming that during this particular time of lovingly observing the mate in tranquil repose, she did not snore or drool or perform some other unconscious and otherwise-involuntary (but still less than endearing) bit of asocial behavior. (Bless her heart.)

Lullaby
Words and Music by David R. Lister
The moon and stars are shining
The night is dark and deep
And there's no use in whining
Child, it's time you went to sleep
Each day just slips away, Love
Leaving only dreams to keep
But I'm here beside you
And I'll stay here while you
Go to sleep
Don't worry with tomorrow
Just rest your weary brain
You may express your sorrow
But your tears are all in vain
Each day just slips away, Love
Leaving only dreams to keep
But I'm here beside you
And I'll stay here while you
Go to sleep
Yes, I'm here beside you
And I'll stay here while you
Go to sleep
