On lazy summer afternoons when school was out, I used to watch a lot of black-and-white B-movies on TV. A couple of the Indianapolis stations aired competing midday matinees from which to choose.

Maybe my memory is fuzzy now, but it seems like there must've been at least a dozen films featuring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney involved in the same simple plot: "Hey, Gang, I've got a barn. We can sing and dance. Let's put on a show!"

Goofy, huh?

Well, I've been a bit-player in a plot like that from time to time. Someone says something like, "Hey, Gang, we've got a studio. We've got broadcast-quality video equipment. We can write comedy sketches and act. Some of us... (continuing, but intentionally avoiding eye-contact with me) ...can dance and sing. (continuing, once again including me in the group) Let's put on a show!"

Unlike in those old movies, I've found that after I put together some material and attend a few meetings, the project just sorta fades to black before the end of the first reel. Plenty of talent and potential, but not enough free-time, not enough of the kind of infectious and persistent cheerleading the gang could always count on from Judy and Mickey.

Anyway,... Following is a link to one of the scripts I wrote on spec for one of those aforementioned blue-sky projects. It's a video script for a musical comedy sketch, based on an original song. (I've already posted the Preface, Lyrics, and Lead Sheet for "Thursday Morning Exorcism Blues" for your perusal.) I think you'll find the humor dark and slightly edgy.
