"The Miracle Woman" was a powerful film, and Stanwyck's performance was her best to date.
Although the film was banned in the British Empire because of charges of irreverence and ended up a commercial failure, critics in America were more impressed.
it was called'
a brilliantly directed study of modern evangelism'
After  a controversy between Stanwyck and Harry Cohn on salary, that lasted all Summer of 1931,  Finally Standwyck, in spite of her husband insistence that she moved back East with him, joined Frank Capra again on the set of their third film together.

"Forbidden" is loosely based on the Fannie Hurst tearjerker 'Back Street'
and the type of film audiences of the thirties loved and studios turned out by the dozens.
Stanwyck certainly made her share of them, as did Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.
But Capra's sensitive,intelligent direction set this one above most of the competition.
Lulu falls in love with married politician , bears him a child,  enter in a marriage of convenience with another man. When her husband threatens to ruin the politician's career, she kills him and is sent to prison. The politician becomes governor, pardons hers and then is taken seriously hill. He dies in her arms. She destroys his will where he admits their affair and leaves her half of his estate, .
