By 1965, Barbara Stanwyck was  fifty-eight years old and a certified Hollywood legend. Work was as much part of her life as ever. She was financially secure enough never to have to work again, but  emotionally she needed to work. But she wanted  good material to work with. She had resisted joining such contemporaries as Bette davis and Joan Crawford  in the horror genre, although she had been tempted to appear with Davis in Hush hush, sweet Charlotte, (Olivia De Havilland  did) Then in an attempt to capitalize on the legendary status of the Taylor-Stanwyck romance and on their continuing friendship, producer William Castle  managed to convince both to appear in  an horror film called "The Night Walker"
Robert taylor, Barbara Stanwyck
Barbara Stanwyck,Elvis Presley
The film was well received by public and critics alike.  Presley is pefectly cast as a knock-about,leathery young derelict who links up with a small-time transient midway. Barbara was the carnival owner.
Stanwyck had reservations about what sort of professional attitude she would find in the singing sensation, but was pleasantly surprised and, as usual, didn't hesitate to say so."  Elvis was a wonderful person to work with. his manners are impeccable, he is on time, he knows his lines, he asks for nothing special. He is not the swelled head a lot of people think he might be.
Barbara didn't make another film for two years. She appeared in two episodes on the Untouchables and  four on Wagon Train.
Then ,suddenly in a surprising piece of casting she turned up with Elvis Presley in "Roustabout"
The Night Walker  1965.  Universal

Barbara Stanwyck  (Irene Trent)

Stanwyck called the film " A shocker suspence story"
It is the story of a woman who lives between dreams and reality and becomes so confused she doesn't know which is which. Stanwyck is excellent in the movie.
During the  filming Ursula Thiess Taylor visited the set often and the two women became acquainted.
Sadly this is the last film Barbara Stanwyck did for the big screen. From now on she would reserve her acting for the small screen
Stanwyck's lobbying for a Western series eventually paid off, and in January 1965, ABC announced that the next season would find Barbara Stanwyck starring in "The Big Valley" on that network
