"Two Heads" Backpack
Our December 13-15 outing is a training backpack to Dos Cabezas. It is an easy walk of eight
miles in two days. We will visit two 1920's railroad camps and camp in an Indian cave near some
pictographs. There's a lot to see on this short hike. We will also learn about backpacking
equipment, hiking, cooking, sanitation, and low-impact camping. This hike is required if you want
to go on our future backpacks next year. The trip is easy and fun, so don't miss it! (December 12
will be a regular troop meeting, NOT a patrol meeting. Don't forget to come to this troop
meeting with your backpack fully packed for inspection!)
River Rat 1996
Our annual Colorado River canoe trip was a great success. We visited
some old homesteads and saw many kinds of birds. Sand bar football
made for fun at lunch time. Thanks to the many adults who helped, and a
special thank you to the Jim and Sue for shuttling the drivers.
Thank You
Thank you to Duane for work done on our equipment trailer's axle system. We much appreciate
it!
News Wanted
Scouts and Scouters are asked to contribute articles for this newsletter. Deadline is the parents' committee meeting.
Our chartered sponsor, the San Marcos Lions Club, is having their annual Christmas food drive.
(The Lions are those nice people that donated $500 worth of stoves and stuff to us last year!) We
have been asked to help by collecting food in front of Vons on Saturday, December 21. Sign up
at the troop meetings or call Mr. S. This service time is easy. Volunteer for a couple hours. Better
yet, bring your whole family to help! Just stand at the door and say "Merry Christmas." People
will fill our boxes with lots and lots of
food!
Christmas Party
Our last troop meeting of the year is December 19. This will be a Christmas party. Check with your patrol leader for what to bring to eat!
Parents' Meetings
We remind all parents that we invite and encouraged them to attend our monthly meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 P.M.(No meeting in December.)
Snow Camp
January 18-19 we are back to Barton Flats (near Big Bear) for our annual snow camp. Sledding, igloo building, and nature await. Our January troop meetings will include how to stay warm and dry while camping in the snow. We usually need a few extra drivers for this trip to haul all our equipment.
