Temporary Meeting Place

If you were at the last troop meeting, you know we will no longer be meeting at Woodland Park Middle School due to the ongoing construction. We will meet temporarily at Vallecitos Water District in San Marcos. A map and directions follow. We will continue to meet on Thursdays at 7:00pm.

Members of the VFW in San Marcos have offered to let us meet in their facility. This will be discussed at the next troop committee meeting on Tuesday, March 24nd at 7:00pm at the home of David Jenkins e-mail for info). You are most welcome to attend.

Directions:

Turn left on Las Posas from Mission Road (going West). Take an immediate left onto Armorlite. Go all the way to the end of Armorlite until it turns into Vallecitos de Oro. The water district will be on your left (201 Vallecitos de Oro). Park in the first parking lot on your left as you enter the front gate. Walk up towards the main entrance doors but do not go up the stairs. Instead, take the sidewalk to your left. Go thru the gate and follow the signs to the meeting place.

Fund raising

Fund Raising All orders and money for the Human-i-tees fund raiser is due at the next troop meeting on Thursday, March 26nd. No more exceptions. The next fund raiser, Dudley's bread, will begin soon. Details to be announced at that troop meeting. The monies earned by each boy for these fund raisers will be applied to his summer camp fees or fees for Sierra Treks.

Summer Camp

Summer Camp Speaking of summer camp, there are two camps to choose from this year - Mataguay Scout Reservation in Warner Springs and Fiesta Island in San Diego. All new scouts should attend Mataguay. Dates for Mataguay are June 28th - July 4th. The cost is $200 for the week. If you participated in Friends of Scouting this year and have received your Community Appreciation card, you will be given a $15 discount off your last payment. First payment for camp is $60 and is due immediately. If you did not sign up for Mataguay at the last troop meeting, you need to do so as soon as possible. Contact the troop treasurer, David Jenkins. The last date to pay summer camp fees is May 27th. After that date, the amount due will be $215.

Fiesta Island offers more of the water oriented merit badges, so if you are interested in that, then Fiesta Island is for you. The dates for Fiesta Island are July 5-July l1. The cost is $200 for the week. You will also receive a $15 discount on Fiesta Island with your Community Appreciation card. Contact Debbie Balfour to sign up for Fiesta Island. Payment due dates are the same as for Mataguay.

Debbie Scheunemann will be one of the leaders for Mataguay, but we need two more leaders. You don't have to be trained in any way (though it does help) - you only need to be registered in the troop. I've been told it's an experience you won't forget, so won't you join me?

Parents Meeting

There will be a meeting for the parents of all new scouts on Thursday, April 2nd at the regular troop meeting. This meeting is mandatory for every family. At least one parent from each family should attend. We'll be talking about how the troop is run, who runs it and what expectations we have from you. You will get copies of the Troop Bylaws, Policies and Annual Calendars. The troop committee will be there to answer any questions you may have.

Camporee

Camporee The Santa Margarita/Kit Carson District's 1998 Spring Camporee will be held the weekend of April 17-19 at the rodeo grounds on Camp Pendleton. This is the next troop camp out and the first one for the new scouts. All scouts planning to attend must pay an $8 deposit by March 26. After that date the deposit goes up to $10. If the scout attends camporee, then the deposit will be transferred to his dues account. If he does not attend, the deposit is not refundable.
