RADIO FUN!!!!!! [Jamboree On The Air]

Our October campout was at Hawk Canyon near Ocotillo Wells. Eleven Scouts and five leaders attended. Saturday morning we hiked over the ridge and down through The Slot which is a very narrow deep canyon. We also participated in Jamboree On The Air which is an international Scout event held each year. This year we talked to Scouts at Camp Wisdom near Dallas (who used the National BSA callsign K2BSA), Camp Mountaineer in West Virginia, and other Scouts in Illinois, Utah, Virginia, and Northern California. We also heard some Scouts in Slovenia, but so did everyone on the East Coast and we weren't able to talk to them. We did, however, talk to Grupo 13 in Monterey, Mexico. Six of the Scouts completed their requirements for the Radio merit badge (how about you other five?) which included learning about radio electronics and rules and listening to a Morse code conversation. -Bill Jeffrey

HAM RADIO [Top]

If you would like to learn about Ham radio, including equipment you need or how to get a license, talk to ASM Bill Jeffrey.

TROOP WEBSITE [Troop 651 on the Internet] [Top]

Our Troop's web site gets bigger and bigger every month. Mr. Jeffrey would like to hear from you if you have visited the site. [Does anyone look at it or should I not bother?] The site has copies of at least the last three years newsletters, some color photos, permission slips, and the Troop's Bylaws and Procedures. One of our Scouts even joined the Troop after finding us on the Web! So visit it and then e-mail Mr. Jeffrey and tell him what you think!

CAMPING INFO [Top]

If you would like to go on this month's campout, you must tell Mr. Scheunemann by the first meeting of the month. This applies to every campout. [This is so we can make sure we have enough drivers.]

CATHOLIC SCOUTS [Top]
