A little while ago, as most of you know, we had our annual camporee. It was quite a lot of fun. Some unexpected showers left certain tents flooded, and left the rest of the campoground huddled under a vast array of shade structures. A suprisingly large amount of campground chores can be done under a shade structure. Most of us know now.
As for competition, we received an unexpected Second Place ribbon for our gate. The reason, according to those present, was "Unusual knots."
We had our Order of the Arrow ceremony, where everyone elected was taken off to much-anticipated Order of the Arrow endeavors.
Little Blair Valley was a good campout. Unlike the previous campout, it did not rain, thankfully. The newer scouts gained a little more in-camp experience. This one was a nice desert campout, filled with Cholla, Ocotillo, Beaver Tail cactus, and many other spiky plants. The newer scouts caught on quickly to the fact that "Cholla is NOT your friend!"
We had a nice five-mile hike, our standard. We went to the Pictographs, ancient markings left by someone or another hundred of years ago. We continued on to the dry waterfall, for Mr. Scheunemann's lecture - Whjy You Don't Run on the Trail.
Bread Sales! This bread sale, the scouts sold a total of over two hundred loaves of bread. Money earned from this fund-raiser was to benefit partipants directly in their scouting activities. It can be applied toward dues or summer camp.
That's right, after many years with the neckerchiefs we have, we, the scouts, have agreed on black neckerchiefs with red borders. Thread will be either black or gold, depending on how gold holds up in the wash. The Lion's Club has provided a generous supply of patches to put on our neckerchiefs. Since they're out sponsors, we will be glad to reciprocate their support by wearing them.
