Since the nineteen
seventies the City of Blacktown has been associated with the sport of Archery.
Blacktown Archers was established in the nineteen seventies, and then known as
Mitchell Archers, with its grounds being at Grantham High School. The club moved
to the current grounds, “The Boiler Paddock” in the nineteen eighties where it
changed its name to Blacktown City Archers. The club was then amalgamated with
the Kemps Creek Archers in 1996 to form what is now known as Blacktown Archers.
Blacktown Archers boasts the ladies state
compound champion who is currently ranked 12th in the world and State champion
for Target, Field and Indoor. In men’s compound 4 archers in the top ten in NSW.
We also have the Under 12 girls recurve national champion for target and field.
Blacktown Archers has over 90 members of which
27 are junior members under the age of 18. The ages of archers at Blacktown
range from 8 years old to 74 years old. Which truly shows, that Archery is a
sport for all ages and all members of the family?
The Boiler Paddock grounds boast a 13 fixed
target butts and a field course, comprising of over 30 field targets. The
grounds also facilitate the shooting of Clout at a distance of 180 metres for
Men’s compound. The grounds have now hosted the National Archery Championships
twice, first in 1999 and now in 2002. Blacktown Council maintains the grounds
for the Blacktown Archers and has a good working relationship with the Club and
its members.
