BETLEHEM CAR WORKS PRR B-60B EVALUATION

These are kits cars with pads for truck and coupler mounting, but no trucks. Dependent on trucks selected, height will need adjusting to 3' 2 1/2" at lower edge of side.

USING CAD DRAWINGS a thorough evaluation is made.

First the car must be measured. The end sill to end rear wall = .174". The end corner reference to wall is .0.072" for endsill to reference =.102". The rim at the corner places the end sheet back by .015". The prototype buffer to reference = 20 11/16" and the usual pulling face set back is 2 1/8". Thus the pulling face to reference is 18 9/16" = .203".

Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing.

KADEE 5 with 37 1/8" PROTOTYPE SPACING.

There will be a diaphragm space = .111". Since the American Limited Heavyweight (ALH) are .134" compressed and .204 extended, they will not fit. Walthers is shown with .051 compressed clearance. The endsill to mounting center = .366".

DIAPHRAGM CHECK ON 36" R

Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing.

PROTOTYPE 18 9/16" SPACING WITH WALTHERS DIAPHRAGM ON 36" R.

There is about .0.009" clearance at the plate end and .020 at the pivot point. This should cause no problems.
