These cars have body mounting pads, which should cause no mounting problems. As kits they provide separate diaphragms which will not be used. Due to length and wheel base they should be run on 30"R or larger. Car floor height needs adjustment. USING CAD DRAWINGS a thorough evaluation is made. First of what coupler and diaphragm may fit determined, then the relationships on curves are analyzed, Since an abundance of Kadee #5's were recovered from other close coupling projects, it was used. The endsill line is drawn to the right of the heavy end corner reference line. The dashed, prototype distance, pulling face line is drawn for reference. For the coupler part of the drawing , the data was found in MEASURING COUPLERS . The upper right rectangle represents the knuckle with horn at left and important pulling face at right. Dashed mounting center is added to shank with box lid, for reference. The is dashed in at the lower right. From measurements, endsill to truck center = 1.5", truck to truck center = 7.8", endsill to end corner reference = .050", endsill half width = .260" and car half width = .680. ![]() Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing. PROTOTYPE 15" SPACING #5 ON 36" R From drawing measurements: endsill to mounting center = .355", pulling face to endsill = .122". The horn must be recessed behind the endsill, but there should be no clearance problem. Walthers paper diaphragms will fit. DIAPHRAGM CHECK ![]() Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing. PROTOTYPE 15" SPACING #5 ON 36" R The end corner to pulling face clearance = .086" and pulling face to diaphragm end plate = .017. No problem is apparent. ![]() Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing. PROTOTYPE 15" SPACING #5 ON 30" R The pulling face to end corner clearance = .052", pulling face to diaphragm end plate = .009. No problem is apparent.
