During layout, the frequently recommended method, using the sharp edge of calipers to scribe lines parallel to an edge often creates wavy, inaccurate lines; since it is difficult to hold bar perpendicular and level to edge throughout entire length. To align trim, woodworkers often made "thumb gauges" from a short stick with a sharp nail or pencil driven through and fastened a block at the required distance, as a guide. Most commercial versions are too large. The screw adjustable, Master Airscrew Balsa Stripper holds a knife blade that can be positioned so the tip can make an excellent scriber. ![]() Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing. MASTER AIRSCREW THUMB GAUGE (STRIPPER) The maximum is just over 3/4" and the dovetail slide is a snug fit. The tip may be easily set with caliper depth gauge, set to the required value plus one half the thickness of the blade. Tip should be set very slightly below slide bottom.
