CARCHARHINIFORMES
(ground sharks)
Carcharhiniformes, or ground sharks, dominate the world's shark fauna.  The eight families contain 215 described species.  They are very widespread, living in cold to tropical seas, as well as in fresh water.  The species are varied in a gradient from primitive small, inactive, small-toothed catsharks, through the intermediate houndsharks and weasel sharks, to the large, powerful requiem sharks and hammerheads, which predominate in warm seas.  Most of the potentially dangerous species occur in this group.
