Clovis Invitational09/06/03 Clovis Invitational Day 1
The team opened the tournament with a game against the Central High Grizzlies. With the score 0-1, Julie Geissert started thing off with four straight service points to give the team an early 5-0 lead. Then, with the score 7-2, Christine Noll served up seven straight points to help the team take a commanding 15-2 lead. With the score 23-7, a kill by Arveeta Singh and a kill by Samantha Surface would help the team to a 25-7 win. The next game started out in a close battle. Then, with the score 13-7, Arveeta Singh would serve up eight straight points to help the team increase their lead to 21-7. The Grizzlies would never recover as the team went on to win by a final score of 25-10. Next up, was the North High Stars. The first game started out close. Then, with the score tied at 11-11, a double block by Megan Roehl and Courtney Goldman got the team going as they would score the next five straight points to take a 17-11 lead. The Stars would battle back to cut the lead to 23-18 but, that was as close as it would get as the team went on for a 25-19 win. The second game started out much like the first. Then, with the score tied at 4-4, Julie Geissert served up seven straight points to help the team take a 11-4 lead. Some nice passing by Taylor Jerri would help the team to a 25-12 win. Clovis Invitational Day 2 The last match in pool play was against the Clovis East High Timberwolves. The team did not start off well as the Timberwolves jumped out to an early 2-5 lead. Then, with the score tied at 7-7, Courtney Goldman would serve up seven straight points to help the team take a 14-8 lead. But, the Timberwolves would not go away and battled back to make the score close at 23-19. Then, a kill by Arveeta Singh and a service ace by Courtney Goldman would help the team to hold on for a 25-19 win. The team stayed hot in the next game. With the score 2-0, a block by Samantha Surface and two service points by Julie Geissert would help the team take an early 5-0 lead. But, the Timberwolves would battle back to cut the lead to 13-9 and then to 22-21. But, with the score 23-21, Julie Geissert would serve up the last two points to help the team hold on for a 25-21 win. The team would finish pool play with a perfect 3-0 record. With the first place pool finish, the team will move on Championship Playoff Bracket play. First up in bracket play was the Golden West High Blazers. The team started out well as they would jump out to an early 8-5 lead. But, with the score 10-6, the Blazers would score six straight points to take an 10-12 lead. The team did not panic. With the score 13-15, Andrea Tom would served up two straight points to help the team tie the score at 15-15. A close battle would follow with scores of 18-18, 20-22, 22-23, 23-24, and 25-25. But, with the score 25-26, the Blazers would score the last point to win by a final score of 25-27. The next game started out close. Then, with the score 19-18, Alicia Pardini would served up four straight points to help the team increase their lead to 23-18. The team would play hard and hold on for a 25-19 to force a third and deciding game. The team started out well in the third game as Arveeta Singh served up six straight points to give the team an early 6-0 lead. But, the Blazers would battle back to cut the lead to 8-5. A battle followed. Then, with the score 14-10, the team would force a side out to win by a final score of 15-10. With the win against the Blazers, the team would move on to the tournament semi finals. In the semi finals, the team would face the tough Buchanan High Bears. The team did not start out well as the Bears jumped out to an early 2-12 lead. The team played hard but fell by a final score of 6-25. The team played much better in the second game as they jumped out to an early 3-5 lead. But, with the score tied at 6-6, the Bears would go on a 4-12 run to take a 10-18 lead. Again, the team played hard but fell by a final score of 13-25. The team finished the tournament tied for 3rd place with an overall record of 4-1. Great job team!
