North Torrance Tournament

The Bullard High School Knights Volleyball team traveled down to Southern California for the North Torrance High School Tournament.

After a fun evening in Westwood watching the UCLA vs USC volleyball game and a good nights rest, it was off to the North Torrance High School gym for the start of pool play.

First up, was the Palos Verdes Panthers.  The team got off to a fast start as they jumped out to an early 8-1 lead (2 service points  by Avreeta Singh and 4 service points by Julie Geissert).  Some nice passing by Dawn Davies would help the team to increase their lead to 20-11.  The Panthers would not recover as the team went on for a 25-17 win.  The team stayed hot in the second game.  With the score 2-1, Julie Geissert served up eight straight points (with help from Sam Surface a nice kill and a nice block), to give the team a commanding 10-2 lead.  A kill by Christine Noll would finished off the Panthers to give the team a 25-12 win.

Next up, was the Chadwick Dolphins. The game started out close with scores of 1-1, 4-2, 7-4, and 11-8.  Then, with the score 12-9,  a kill by Julie Geissert and three Dolphin hitting errors would help the team increase their lead to 15-9.  The Dolphins would try to fight back but fell by a score of 25-15.  The second game started much like the first.  Then, with the score 18-16,  Courtney Goldman would serve up three straight points to help the team increase their lead to 21-16.  But, the Dolphins would not quit and battled back to tie the score and then take a 21-23 lead.  The team fought hard but the Dolphins would hold on for a 22-25 win and force a third and deciding game.  The third game was another close battle with scores of 2-1, 7-5, and 8-6.  Then, with the score 8-7, the Dolphins would score the next five straight points to take a 8-12 lead.  The team did not panic and battled back.  With the score 9-13, a double block by Julie Geissert an Megan Roehl, a kill by Christine Noll, a kill by Sam Surface and a Dolphin hitting error would help the team tie the score at 13-13.  Another battle followed with scores of 14-14, 15-15, 16-16, and 18-17.  Then, with the score 19-18, Alicia Pardini would serve up the last point to help the team win by a final score of 20-18.

The last match in pool play was against the North Torrance Saxons.  The team started out well as they took an early 4-0 lead.  But, the Saxons battled back to cut the lead to 4-3 and then take a 5-6 lead.  A close battle followed with scores of 7-10, 11-11, 13-12, 14-4, and 15-15.  But, with the score 16-17, the Saxons would score three straight points to increase their lead to 16-20.  The team would battle back to cut the lead to 18-22 and then to 19-23.  Then, with the score 20-23, Andrea Tom would serve up five straight points to help the team to a come from behind 25-23 win.  The team started out fast in the second game.  With the score 1-0, Julie Geissert served up five straight points (two nice jump serves) to help the team to an early 6-0 lead.  A nice kill by Emily Barr and the team had a 13-9 lead.  But, the Saxons would battle back to take a 13-15 lead.  A close battle followed with scores of 18-15, 20-18, and 24-21.  But, the Saxons would not go away and fought back to tie the score at 24-24.  Then, with the score 25-24, Andrea Tom would serve up the last point to help the team hold on for a 26-24 win. 

The team finished pool play with a perfect 3-0 record and a first place finish. The following are the final pool standings:

With the first place pool finish, the team will move on Championship Playoff Bracket play.

First up in bracket play was the Torrance Tartars.  The team started off well as they jumped out to an early 5-0 lead.  But, the Tartars would fight back to cut the lead to 7-5 and then take a 8-9 lead.  A close battle would follow with scores of 9-10, 11-13, 12-15, and 15-16.  Then, with the score 16-17,  Taylor Jerri would serve up two straight points to help the team regain the lead at 18-17.  Another battle followed.  Then, with the score 24-21, a kill by Avreeta Singh would help the team to a 25-21 win.  With the win against the Tartars, the team would move on to the tournament semi-finals.

The West Warriors were up next in the tournament semi-finals.  The Warriors jumped out to an early 2-6 and then a 5-12 lead.  The team would battle back to cut the lead to 10-13 and then to 16-18.  Then, with the score 17-19, Courtney Goldman would serve up four straight points to help the team take a 21-19 lead.  But, the Warriors would not go away and tied the score at 21-21.  Then, with the score 22-21, Alicia Pardini would serve up the last three points to help the team to a 25-21 win.  With the win against the Warriors, the team would move on to the tournament finals.

The tournament finals would match the team against the Brentwood Eagles.   The first game started out in a close battle with scores of 3-3, 4-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8, 9-9, 10-13, 11-14, 12-15, 14-16, 15-17, 16-19, and 17-20.  Then, with the score 18-20, Julie Geissert would serve up three straight points to help the team take a 21-20 lead.  But, the Eagles would battle back to tie the score at 21-21, 24-24, and then at 25-25.  Then, with the score 25-24, a kill by Julie Geissert would help the team to win by a final score of 26-24.  The second game was another battle with scores of 3-4, 5-5, 8-7, 10-9, 11-12, 12-15, 14-16, and 17-19.  Then, with the score 18-21, Christine Noll would serve up four straight points to help the team take a 22-21 lead.  But, the Eagles would not go away and battle back to tie the score at 22-22.  Then, with the score 24-23, the team would force a sideout and hold on for a 25-23 win and capture the North Torrance High School Tournament title.

The team finished the tournament in 1st place with an overall record of 6-0. The following are the final Championship Bracket standings:
