Masses of Deanna Durbin collectibles are currently available on the market, including movie posters, lobby cards, sheet music, record albums, videos, dvd's, magazines with stories and/or covers featuring Deanna, paper dolls, postcards, cigarette cards, books, movie stills, glossies, photographs and more. Prices can vary considerably: from a couple of dollars per item to a thousand dollars or more. However, it is more common to pay approximately ten to one hundred dollars for an item of memorabilia.
The least expensive items, and the most plentiful, are the postcards and cigarette cards that feature Deanna. I have bought quite a few for as little as $5 (Canadian). Sheet music is harder to find, but ranges from $20 to $50. Magazines featuring Deanna on the cover or inside spreads can vary in price considerably: from about $20 to more than $80. When buying these magazines, condition is always the most important factor. Is the cover appealing? How old is it? Does the magazine simply feature Deanna on the cover? I would reccommend caution if you buy magazines from places on the net such as e-bay or other aution sites. I have bought several magazines in good faith which have turned out only to feature Deanna on the cover, and no inside story at all! It is easy to be caught out.
Movie posters from Deanna's films, along with lobby cards, are sought-after items and can be very expensive! They were usually issued in sets of eight. I have bought sheets in good condition for $80, which is a little steep, although they are quite rare.
Where can I find these collectibles? There are loads of ways to locate and purchase Deanna memorabilia! One source I find invaluable is the publication "Movie Collectors World." Every issue contains hundreds of ads for film-related collectibles, which include posters, sheet music, lobby cards, records and magazines. You can subscribe for a year (26 issues) for $45.00. The net is probably the best way to locate Deanna memorabilia. Sites such as e-bay auction masses of Deanna items every day, and books, cd's and videos can be purchased from places such as amazon.com. However, this is not the cheapest way to go about it! Much of my own memorabilia has been found in dusty old-books stores, thrift stores, at garage sales, in old-record shops.... the possiblities are endless! An excellent place to visit (if you live in the U.K) is forever gold. They offer masses of Deanna-related stuff, including posters, cd's, dvd's, photographs, autographs and more.
The Advanced Book Exchange lets you to search the online inventories of out-of-print book dealers. There are not many books that are Deanna Durbin collectibles; the only ones I currently know of are "Deanna Durbin and the Feather of Flame" and "Deanna Durbin and the Adventure of Blue Valley," both published by Whitman in Racine, Wisconsin in 1941. I have found magazines, record albums, books of song music, autographed glossies, etc. for sale there. Colouring books and paper dolls are common and can be found there or at Amazon.com.
