SAMPLE LETTER

1. Address to either or preferably all, but in separate letters - Mr Webb, Mr Nairn, and Mr Whan.

   (Date)                                                Dear Sir,

BUNGENDORE NORTH DEVELOPMENT

I am writing to you as it would seem our requests to the Yarrowlumla Shire Council (Council) for action concerning the development currently proceeding in the area described as Bungendore North, Elmslea North, Elmslea East or Elmslea Village, Bungendore, have fallen on deaf ears.

As an example, a petition signed by over 300 Bungendore residents and presented to a meeting of the Council clearly stated an objection to a proposed road linking the new development to the north of Bungendore village via, what we describe as, the Common.

No official response to our request for this road not to proceed has been received from Council.  Given that some months have elapsed since the presentation of this petition, I can only assume that Council is determined to carry out whatever processes it sees fit, regardless of the community feeling on the issue.

I am concerned that the style of development is not sympathetic to what is an “historic village”.  The development itself will consist of 400 home lots and 100 medium density units in an urban style, kerb and guttered development to be built over a 3 year time frame.  To put this into context, Bungendore village has only some 400 existing residences.  This is hardly conducive to an 1837 village.

The only Council initiated consultative process has been the one closed (invitation only) workshop held over a weekend in September 1992.  The layout of the development now differs significantly from concepts that were presented in 1992/93.  I believe the whole process has been conducted by stealth rather than with transparency and community consultation that residents rightfully expect.

I would respectfully request that your office note our objection to the Council failing to listen to the wishes of the Bungendore community.  I would also seek your intervention, if possible, into this potential outrageous decimation of public recreational land and the complete lack of interest shown by Council in this historic village.

Yours sincerely,
