• When a computer user copies a file from the Internet into his computer's hard drive, he is downloading it. As a WebTV user, you don't have enough of a hard drive to accomplish this.
• When a file is copied from a computer's hard drive onto the Internet it is being uploaded. Although it doesn't fit that definition exactly, we usually refer to transferring files to the WebTV Scrapbook as uploading.
• A transloader is an online tool that will temporarily download a copied file from it's location on the Internet to host computer's hard drive. It will then upload that copy to a homepage directory on a remote server such as GeoCities or Tripod. It copies and transfers files from one location to another across the Internet, thus transloading.

I've tried to make transloading and uploading from these pages as easy as possible. On each of the graphics pages there is a link that will take you to the StarBlvd Hex Transloader or to WebScissors.

• The Hex Transloader has long been used by WebTV PageBuilders to upload files to their Scrapbooks, but it is also a real time saver for WebTV users with homepages at remote servers.

  The Hex (stands for HTML Extractor) Transloader will display the URLs of all of the images on a page with a (P) to the left of it and an (S) to the right. Clicking on the (P) will allow you to view the image and clicking on (S) will upload the image to your WebTV Scrapbook. Clicking on the actual URLs will allow you to transload them one at a time to your homepage directory.

  When you click on the Hex Transloader link, the URL of the page containing the graphics will be displayed in the "Last Visited Page" textbox of the Hex Transloader. Click on the blue teardrop and that URL will automatically be copied into the "Source URL" field. Then click the "extract" button. The page that follows will show the transloader's progress copying the file. You may have to re-load the page once or twice until you see all of the image URLs displayed. The next steps will depend on whether you are uploading to the PageBuilder Scrapbook or transloading to a remote server.

  • WebTV PageBuilder

    Click on the (S) to the left of the URL to upload it to your Scrapbook. This image will go into the Scrapbook of the user that you are currently logged on as. When you are finished uploading the images, click on the the "Zap" button at the bottom of the page.

  • Remote Servers

    Click on the URL of the image. You will be taken to the transloader page. Don't let all the input boxes throw you, there are only three of them that you need to fill in:
    Target FTP Server:
    Target Account Name:
    Target Account Password:
    (You have the option to rename the file, but it isn't required.)
    

    • Target FTP Server tells the transloader where to put the file. If your homepages are at GeoCities you would enter ftp.oocities.com. At Tripod it's ftp.tripod.com. There are few exceptions, but check your homepage server's help pages if you are not sure what your ftp server address is.
    • Target Account Name is your username at Tripod, Geocities, etc.
    • Target Account Password is the password you chose when registering for your homepages.

• WebScissors is one of the easiest ways to upload to your WebTV Scrapbook. When you arrive at the WebScissors Home Page, click the words "Show Last URL Visited". The URL of your last page will appear in the text box. Click the "Show Images" button and WebScissors will display every image from that page. Click on the image you want and you will get a pop-up confirming that you wish to upload that image to your WebTV Scrapbook. Click "Continue", and the image is in your scrapbook.
